Stafford Races to Third Coffee-O-Five Win

by by Ken Gartner

It sure didnıt seem like mid May, but 36 runners donned warm clothes and battled the cold northeast headwind this Friday night at the Coffee-O-Five. James Tosca led the field as he crossed the line in three tics under 30 minutes. Jeff List outdistanced Mark Abbott for third. Bob Crowley cracked the top five for his first time in a while. He edged David Steube by 30 seconds. Threes were wild this week for Michele Bianchine of Venice, Italy. He racked up four of them with his seventh place time of 33:33. Hot off of a fine effort in last monthıs Boston Marathon, Bob Richards was looking for a personal best time this week. His chances were slim to none when he hit Surf Drive and was faced with a stiff headwind over the last two miles. However, his running mates Pete Landry and Stace Beaulieu teamed up to break the wind for him. That coupled with the lingering cosmic forces from the previous nightıs lunar eclipse, helped create a vacuumed wind vortex. This anomaly propelled the struggling, tired runner to a personal best time by a mere second. Wendy Stafford needed no help at all with her run. She chalked up her third Coffee-O-Five win in as many tries. Her time was 36:41. Stace Beaulieu edged Elizabeth Sherman for second. The race for fourth was very close with three women finishing within 20 seconds of one another. Dana Delorme edged Eileen Miskell by 10 seconds to nab fourth. Kris Tholke took sixth in 41 minutes flat. Ms. Tholke also had a good effort a month ago at the big marathon in Beantown. The Coffee-O-Five is a weekly five-mile run and a 2.4-mile noncompetitive walk. It is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. All are invited to participate in this self-timed event.
