Coffee-O-Five
Falmouth, MA, July 4, 2003
Post Race Fireworks this Week at Coffee O Five
by by Ken Gartner
Many of the regulars were not there this week and it was a small field
of only 20 runners who took part in this weeks Fourth of July running of the
Coffee-O-Five. Many of the regulars were running in one of the numerous
Fourth of July road races throughout New England, while others were resting
for the next dayıs Paul White Road Race in North Falmouth. Some of course
were instead just sitting back with their feet up and enjoying themselves at
a summer cookout.
Peter Landry ran in the Mattapoisett Five Mile Road Race earlier in the
day and then battled the traffic as he raced back to participate in the
Coffee O Five in the afternoon. Brian Nelson turned in his fastest time of
the year as he raced home to a second place finish in 32:39. Jim Ward edged
Chris George for third and Kirk DiRubio of Cataumet garnered his first top
five finish, in just over 36 minutes.
All the women in the field finished in succession. Jamie George of
Needham led the way with a time of just over 40 minutes. It was the first
Coffee O Five win for Ms. George. Susan Colburn-Nevier of Seattle,
Washington followed three minutes later to take second. Madeleine Marken
edged Marcie Butler for third. Rounding out the field was Anne Hasson of
Milton who placed fifth in one of her best finishes.
The C offee O Five is a weekly five-mile road race and 2.4-mile walk,
which is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth.
There is no entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners and walkers
are invited to participate.
