Coffee-O-Five
Falmouth, MA, July 27, 2003
Young Fast Legs at Coffee O Five
by by Ken Gartner
It was another large fast field for this weekıs Coffee O Five Road
Race. Six guys raced through the first mile in under five and a half
minutes. In the midst of the pack were two 16-year-old runners who could be
welcome to the Falmouth High cross-country team this fall. Justin Ladner
led two other family members across the line with a strong fourth place
finish in just over 30 minutes. Mike Stone took a full two minutes off his
old Coffee O Five personal best, en route to a sixth place finish in just
under 31 minutes. Kevin Gray ran uncontested to win the race in just over 28
minutes. Mel Gonalves, who is training for a long ultra running expedition,
took third again as he did last week. Bill OıMara , a former Coffee O
regular, weathered the long drive from Bristol, Rhode Island and made his
first appearance in almost two years. Mr. OıMara finished fifth.
Lynn Holmgren also obliterated her personal best Coffee O Five time.
She raced home to another womenıs win and her time of 32:14 was a full 45
seconds faster than her former personal best. Wendy Stafford edged Joan
MacClary for second. Finishing in a tie for fourth were Pat Kukla and
Carmen Moore who are both from Atlanta, Georgia.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which is
held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is
no entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners and walkers are
invited to participate. Coffee Obsession on Queens Byway generously
supplies cold bottled water afterwards.
