Coffee-O-Five
Falmouth, MA, August 29, 2003
Large Walker Turnout at Coffee O Five
by by Ken Gartner
The walkers returned in force this week to the Coffee O Five, as eleven
walkers legged it out for 2.4 miles. Forty-one runners completed the
five-mile run.
Rob Flaherty and Dave Farrell were the early pace setters. Mr.
Flaherty hung on for a third place finish in his first Coffee O Five of the
year. Mr. Farrell hung on for a fifth place finish in just under 34
minutes. Ben Garfield of Medfield finished strong to take fourth in a time
of 33:22. Peter Landry finished a lucky thirteenth in his first race as a
forty-seven year old, which means he must have had a birthday earlier in the
week.
The first three women dashed into Town Hall Square hot on each others
heels. Robin Price of Palo Alto California sprinted out to an early lead
with a very quick first mile. She hung on in the end for a third place
finish in just over 34 minutes. Margaret Bradley came from behind and
finished first for the women with a time of 34:08, just 5 seconds ahead of
Lynn Holmgren. Stace Beaulieu chalked up her personal best five mile time
en route to her fourth place finish. She finished in 35:30. With the
cooler nights of fall approaching she should have a shot at 35 minutes.
The Coffee O Five is a weekly five mile run and 2.4 mile walk which is
held at 5:30 PM from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee
for these self-timed events and all runners and walkers are invited to
participate.
