1 Mile Riverbottom Burnout!

Inaugural Riverbottom Burnout a Success

Ryan Kyranakis of Huntsville, AL crossed the finish line in 4 minutes 43 seconds to take top honors in the inaugural 1 Mile Riverbottom Burnout! on October 18th, 2003. The race, held in McFarland Park in Florence Alabama, was sponsored by the Tennessee River Athletic Club. Shoals Area runner Thomas Pearce turned in the day's only other sub-5 minute performance in 4:55. The top male master and third overall was Huntsville's Mike Allen. Mike's 5:08.85 is a new state record for 46- year-old males, just 15-hundredths of a second faster than the previous record.

On the female side, Dawn Lewis of Florence took the top trophy with a 7:05, and Sharon McFall from Rogersville was female master winner, running 7:20. Martha Smith shattered the state record for 52-year-old females with an 8:20, besting the old record by 1 minute 23 seconds.
