On August 24, 2002 entrants from as far a field as Canada and Mexico took on the sold out 2002 Wuhoo! beginner sprint style adventure race and the more demanding endurance format.

The experience level of Washington State adventure racers proved too strong for the Wuhoo! Endurance Race. Thanks to the lack of headwind and extremely calm water conditions (which wasn't expected by the race course organizers) the lead racers of the 2002 Wuhoo! Endurance Race completed the course in a record 7 hours. Unfortunately for the last half of the pack the headwind started to kick up and the 11 mile paddle became less than comfortable.

Competitors started near the Salmon la Sac Campground just north of Roslyn, Washington at about 8:10 am. Using the classic adventure racing format where the course is kept secret until a few hours before start time, racers navigated their way via a mixture of hiking, running, mountain biking, paddling and rapelling. The first serious challenge of the day was to sing a song using the word "old". Between CP's 1 & 2 teams had to come up with an existing song that had the word old in it and then sing it to the Race Director and the many spectators. "Old MacDonald had a Farm" was the number one choice followed by "This Old Man". Highlights of the Endurance race course include a hanging rappel, a fixed rope climb, 4 miles of classic Washington single track mountain biking, 11 miles of lake paddling, and lots of bushwhacking.

Congratulations to team F.A.R.T. (Fire Adventure Racing Team) for their second year in a row, 1st place overall victory.

The shorter beginner race designed for adventure racing rookies was no less testing, giving newcomers some grueling terrain and challenges including 4 miles of single track mountain biking and 5 miles of bushwhacking.

Racers enjoyed the sun and recounted their day’s activities at the start/finish line area while partaking in a barbecue dinner and some frosty ones provided by the Parkway Tavern of Tacoma, WA. The race awards ceremony started at about 3pm while some teams were still on the course. There were numerous draw prizes. All top finishers were awarded a free entry into another Wuhoo! Adventure Race and a combination of prizes from the race sponsors: CLIF® BAR, ZEAL SUNGLASSES®, RED BULL®, ISIS SPORTSWEAR®, TALKING RAIN BEVERAGE COMPANY®, ARE YOU NUTS?
