11th Mt. Misery Relay Race

Troy, OR, June 22, 2002

Results courtesy of the Seaport Striders Running Club

If you weren't there, then you really missed out on a great time this year at the run. Couldn't have been any funner!!!

We had to run the 55 mile alternate route because there was still snow on the mountain. The weather was perfect with a big thunder and lightening storm as we climbed Weissenfels Ridge. The afternoon was pretty warm...no, HOT! Especially because we rode in the back end of an open pick-up! There is NO shade on the alternate route!

Mike Collins team from LCSC took the race this year with a time of 5:19:38. There was a real knock-down drag-out race for second place between last years winning team and the return of Greg Tate's team. The "1st and Last Timers" beat out the "Five STuds and a Freshman" by one minute! Quite the return!!

But what you really missed out on this year was a heapin' helpin' of "Fat Dave's" BBQ Chicken and Pork, with his secret gourmet recipe of "Grande Ronde BBQ Beans"...mmmmm,mmmm...oh yes! Dave has already put together next year's menu featuring Prime Rib and Corn-on-the-Cob! Good Eatin'!

Quite a few people camped out that night in Troy and waited for the first Mt. Misery solo runner, Paul Piplani. Can you believe this guy and his sherpa drove all the way from Phoenix Arizona just to do our run? They left Phoenix at 11:00pm Thursday and began the run at 6:00am Saturday! Paul crossed the finish line that night to a cheering croud with his official time of 15:15:10. A NEW COURSE RECORD!

Note: Alternate Route - 55.5M
