Beech Hill Snowshoe Run

The day dawned clear and cold, and the sun shone brightly on top of the hill. Other than a chilly breeze and some glare from the sun on the pristine snow in the fields, the day was perfect for a refreshing snowshoe run. A small group of outdoor enthusiasts gathered at Beech Hill Farm for a fundraising event organized by Peter Keeney of Bar Harbor, ready to "go for the gold" on a 2K or 4K course through the fields and woods. From 1-year-old Lily riding in Tami Turner's backpack in the "walker" category, to seasoned 61-year-old Norm Hawes in his traditional wood snowshoes, everyone finished with pink cheeks and a big smile! Race Director Peter Keeney, representing Downeast Trail Runners, led the group in with a sizzling time of 25:11, followed closely by Central Maine Striders runner David Drew from Litchfield, Maine. Thanks to the sponsors - Don's Shop'N'Save, The Alternative Market, Cadillac Mt. Sports, Treasure Island, Annie's Homemade Soaps, and The Music Bar - and also Camp Beech Cliff, The Mount Desert Islander, Beth Lawson -timing, The Bar Harbor Times and our hosts: Beech Hill Farm! Everyone was able to enjoy something to eat and drink after the run, and all the participants received prizes for their efforts. $50 was raised for Beech Hill Farm and a good time was had by all!
