Papa Clyde's 40th Birthday 3.2 Miler & Bash with Friends

W. Somerville, MA, September 19, 2002

Overall Results

Hosted by the Somerville Striders Athletic Club

Hoped someone would come, thank god they did--no picket lines, however word was abound that a guy dressed as Gloria Steinen or similiar was spotted on the course with a pink flower directing runners:>)..loads of runners and a bunch of folks who just like to eat free birthday cake and hum Bruce Springsteen songs while driving showed up...nice time on a peaceful night in grand ole, changing Somerville...

The competition up front, in the middle and at the back of the pack was tremendous tonight...no one messes around down at the Logan..until after the race!! Aging fast-but still looks 35, Johnny Goodwin of the Greater Lowell Road Runners got sandwiched in tonight for most of the race by two young studs-one from the Boston Athletic Association and the other from the Somerville Striders Athletic Club.. Joshua Gordon taking home 1st two weeks in a row eeked out the win over John with Matty Corcoran sneeking in just behind John...and if the battles between Nicole & Rocky Brighous continue..then the race director will have to have Cataldo Ambulance Service at the Finish Line..these two duke it out like no other couple I know...and without ever yelling at one another or ever throwing a punch!!

Next week is the real test for the Brighouses tho..cause who ever beats the other will get a freebie entry in next weeks New England Fire Fighters Big City Five & Dime Road Race in Somerville, Massachusetts.....and let's not the forget the battle that took place way in the back..Jack Curtin who is 71 years old and one of those North Medford Club old codger types who only lace up the sneaks if they plan to race..put a whuppin' on former Boston College Track Star Freddie Kirk with 100 Meters to go...that don't happen to often but it did tonight and boy did we get a good laugh...

And finally, they are slowing coming back like the "Swallows of Capistrano"....our regular Logan runners who didn't join us this summer on the Charles..John Nott of the IATC, Beanie Eisner of Tufts..and last week it was others..soon we'll be in full swing..clogging up all the runner lanes in Somerville during the run and enjoying that good Harpoon Beer following the run...it don't get any bettah than that folks!!
