Coffee Obsession Friday Night 5

Falmouth, MA, June 14, 2002

Holmgren Wins 2nd Straight, Faloutico churns out a PR

The threat of rain and the ominous skies may have scared some runners away this week, but 30 hearty soles still crossed the line in this weeks Coffee-O-Five. They were joined by four hard core walkers. Barbara and Don Lunn, along with Russ and Joan Pelletier donned foul weather gear and umbrellas and sauntered through the 2.4 mile course in 41 minutes. All four walkers have completed all of the Coffee-O walks since the walk was added to the event one month ago.

The strong north-east headwind on Surf Drive wasn’t conducive to fast times. Steve Faluotico wasn’t aware of that and he churned out a personal best time of 29:32 and crossed the line in first place. Don Fredrikson of Newton grabbed third in his first ever Coffee-O-Five.

Steve Hamel nabbed fourth and Chris Sherwood garnered his first top five finish at the Coffee-O-Five with a time of just under 35 minutes. Peter Noonan returned to the event after a long absence and picked up just about where he left off with a time of 36:30. John Ramsey turned in his fastest Coffee-O time in quite a while, as he toured the course at 7 minute per mile pace.

Lynn Holmgren made it two wins in a row as she led the women with a time of 37 minutes. Kip Morris grabbed second just 45 seconds back and Sharon Napier took third. Elizabeth Sherman and Linda Dalton rounded out the top five.

The Coffee-O-Five is a five mile race which is held every Friday night at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee for this self-timed event and all runners are invited to participate. A noncompetitive 2.4 mile walk also takes place. Festivities are now being planned for the 5 year anniversary of the event which will be in two weeks.
