McEwan Posts Season's Best Time
New
Milford's Reid McEwan posted the best time of the season as he won his
second straight Roxbury Road Race, and he beat the previous record holder,
Assis, in the process. It began as a three horse race, Read, Assis and
former Brookfield ace JT Schemm. Assis wore out with about a mile to go
and drifted back, barely holding off Mike Abraham, while up front, poor JT just
couldn't keep up as young Reid held a strong pace. Reid just gets faster
every week.
Among the women, it was quite a
close race as Rapid Lynn Zuback took her first race of the season by just six
seconds over Cornelia Field, who was just eight seconds ahead of Judy
Wilson. The story at the finish line was that Cornelia had the lead on
Apple Lane and she was listening to music on headphones. As they started
up the last hill, a slow song came on and so she slowed down to run to the beat
of the music. Rapid Lynn pounced for the win, but the song wasn't long
enough for Judy Wilson to catch Cornelia as well. This story could not be
verified, but it makes a good story.
For
fun, we've combined all the results from the first four races to form a
212-person Virtual Race. Results are posted here.
Data nuts should enjoy it. Also, anybody interested in the Excel file
containing all the 2001 data or the most recent Excel file containing the 2002
data should eMail Web Guy at esandifer@earthlink.net.
Most
of us have heard by now that Kyle Gancher, long time Roxbury Regular, winner of
this season's first race, and featured pushing the stroller on the Roxbury Home
Page has been hospitalized for the past couple of weeks with a brain
virus. With luck, she'll be coming home soon. Either that or they'll
be kicking her out because she's figured out that it's 18 laps to the mile at
the hospital in New Britain. Knowing Kyle, she's probably keeping her
mileage up. Kyle, you have our prayers and best wishes. Hurry
back.
