Sun Shines. JT, PQ Win.
A
beautiful spring day seemed cool after record setting heat all week.
It seems like people run at Roxbury like the weather was all week, and not how
the weather is on Saturday. This week bore that out. People ran like
it was hot, even though the heat wave had ended, leaving it sunny and 60
degrees.
JT
Schemm wore down new Roxbury resident Mike Abraham and beat him by 20
seconds. Roxbury also nabbed third place as Homeboy Jay Kuenzle ran down
Keyless Bob Derringer by ten seconds.
PQ
Pam Quist continued her string of wins among the women, grabbing her seventh
race of the year and tenth place over all in 23:49. Rapid Lynn Zuback was
three minutes back in 26:06, and Kyle Gancher, still a bit wobbly after Monday's
Boston Marathon, was a minute and a half behind that.
Roxbury runners fared fairly well at Boston last week. We have a page of Roxbury
runners and friends and how they finished. The Fossil Ed Sandifer
finished his 30th consecutive Boston, missing a chance to nip under three hours
one last time by about two minutes. The Kyle Gancher Saga continues.
She was pretty tired by the end of the marathon, logging a chip time of 4:03 and
suffered some shaking, but she was recovering well enough to do a decent Roxbury
this week. We haven't talked to Peg Molina, but the official results give
her a chip time of 3:33, about three minutes slower than last year.
Remember last year, though, she had a difficult recovery.
Rumor has it that Carl Hunt ran the London Marathon last weekend. Web Guy
heard the rumor too late to check it out with Carl himself, but Web Guy is not a
professional journalist, so he believes everything he hears. Tell us about
it, Carl! Other rumors have it that some of our friends are going to sneak
off and run the Chicago Marathon this fall in an effort to qualify for Boston
next year. What a silly way to have fun.
This week's top picture is from last year, Dangerous Ken Merrick giving a stick
at the finish to Critter Chris Powderly. Below is this week's winner, PQ, smiling, of
course.
The Roxbury Races are now
listed on the Internet both on CoolRunning.com
and on HiTekRacing.com.
