28th Annual Apple Harvest 10K

October 13, 2001
Shelburne, VT

Getting lost and arriving less than 30 seconds before the start of the this year's race didn't deter Jessie Holmes. With no strecthing or warm up she took off with the main pack and went on to win by 1:12 in a time of 39:16. Jim Miller distanced himself from the main pack early and went on to win by 2:40 in a time of 35:31. Andrew Pedersen, Bill Dysart, Todd Silk, Steve Eustis and Jessie all stayed together through the first mile. After Steve fell back, Chuck Landry approached the group after 2 miles. Gordon MacFarland surged after the 5K turn around to do a very negative split, catching and passing several of the main pack. The weather turned out to be ideal for the 86 runners - 65 degrees, mostly sunny and a light south wind.

Thanks to all volunteers -  Clif Rivers, Linda Rhoads, Mary Slattery, Brian Clark, Tim Duff and Jennifer Miller for a perfectly timed race.  David Fields, Anne Treadwell and Phyllis Marcel for their efforts on the registration table.  Josh Flore, Ken Schatz and Alison McKain for a great job with traffic control out on the course.  Kris and Tom Larson and Melanie LeMoine for keeping the runners hydrated during the race at both the 2 and 4 mile waterstops.  Karen Clark for her photography and Doug O’Brien for providing the runners with their split times at various mile markers.  Also, Marisha LeMoine for helping with the refreshment table as well as the awarding of prizes.

Thanks also to the SportsShoe Center, Twin Oaks Sports and Fitness Center, Paul Mazza’s Farm Stand, Chittenden Cider Mill, The Bagel and Mrs. Ruth Bull for donated and/or discounted prizes and refreshments.
