6th 3rd Annual Novemberfest Trail Run and Party

Nashua, NH, November 18, 2001

6th 3rd Annual Novemberfest Three Times the Fun

by Bubba Thompson

The seventh running of the 6th 3rd Annual Curly Goulet Memorial Novemberfest was held under warm sunny skies at Nashua's beautiful Mines Falls Park on Sunday November 18. Thanks to the generous sponsorship of the Club National, Stan's Place, James E. Coffey Post - American Legion, Mt. Sunapee, Mark's Showplace, and Sportloft, several hundred dollars were raised for the Nashua Children's Home.

The top three (or tree in Novemberfest lingo) runners were all Jim's. Jim Rhoades led the way with a resounding victory, amazingly just days after arthroscopic hip surgery. Jim was lounging comfortly by the time Jim Quadros crossed the line in second place. Jim Belanger rounded out the top tree. Chef Levesque entertained the crowd and finished a strong fourth place overall. The Top Tree women were Michelle Cady, Niamh Higgins and Cynthia Shapiro.

32 time Winston Cup winner and Viagra spokesperson, Mark Martin, was very exited as he fired the starting gun at precisely 11:33 am for over 100 thirsty Novemberfest harriers. Bob Dole made a brief appearance at the post race party by handing out the first of many real and unreal door prizes to Leah Hesse.

A fabulous post race feast was prepared by members of the Gate City Striders and the Wednesday Evening Church Group. This is a one of a kind race that needs to be run to be fully appreciated.
