Beautiful Spring Weather Brings Out Good Crowd for Mother's Day Friday Night Five
by Ken Gartner
Holy Cow what a night for a run! The weather conditions were almost identical to last Friday night and 37 people took part this week's "Pre Mothers Day Friday Night Five."
Former Falmouth Track Club president, Peter Golato, now of Columbus, Ohio, was back in town to reunite with his former track club teammates. Actually the real reason the devoted son was in town was to visit his mother for Mother's Day. After the race some of the more absent-minded runners dashed off to various card shops and florists to do what they should have done much earlier in the week.
Kris Tholke was the first woman and the first mother to cross the line this week. Following close on her heels was Alyssa Pelish who was running the Friday Night Five for her first time. Also making her Friday Night Five debut was Anna Burtis of North Falmouth, who finished in third place.
Russ Pelletier was the first person to cross the line, but he left an hour or two early as he wasn't sure if his lame knee would hold out. Mike Norton was the actual winner. Fourth place finisher, Greg Peterson, was also making his Friday Night Five debut. The Friday Night rookie was running comfortably in third place for almost the entire race before he was reeled in with a half mile to go by the wily veteran Bob Crowley. Ed Giordano showed no ill effects form his recent marathon somewhere out in Ohio, as he trotted in in just over 42 minutes.
The Friday Night Five is held every week at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee and all runners are invited to participate in this self-timed event.
