Runners Brave Dreary Conditions at Friday Night Five
by Ken Gartner
It was cold and damp and just a dreary night for a run. The good news was that the faster runners were actually able to finish the 5 miles before darkness set in. Eighteen runners toed the line this week, among them was former Friday Night Five regular, Leslie Greene. Ms. Greene hadn't done the run in so long that some of the runners forgot who she was. She did remember the course, and streaked home in just over 50 minutes, good enough to crack the top five.
With the Quarterdeck Racing Team badly in need of young fast runners with fresh legs, Jeff Fumarola successfully recruited his buddy Chester Moors to join the team. In his Friday Night debut, Moors dogged Fumarola's heels for four miles before tiring at the end.
Running was not the hot topic after the race. Instead plans were developed for the first annual Falmouth Track Club Golf Tournament. Since Paul Hartel is one of the few Track Club members who knows anything about hitting a golf ball, he was placed in charge of the new venture.
The Friday Night Five is held every week at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for this self-timed event and all runners are welcome to participate.
