Fiday Night Runners Usher in New Year
by Ken Gartner
Eighteen runners took part in this week's Friday Night Five, the first Friday Night Five of the new year. There were actually 19 runners, but one runner who was in the top five forgot to sign in. As expected all 18 runners posted their fastest five times of the year. The race was dominated by a bunch of old guys, as Dan Webb and Corey Keesling were the only runners in the top ten who were under 40 years old. Tor Clark and Jeff Hamilton both made one of their rare Friday night appearances. The
two veteran runners normally have a hard time making the run do to busy work schedules. Stace Beaulieu was the first woman.
Afterwards a horde of hungry runners invaded Russ and Joan Pelletier's house for an impromptu spaghetti and meatball dinner. Although everyone had a good time the Pelletiers did not think it would be a good idea to make the dinner a weekly event.
The Friday Night Five is held every week at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for this self-timed event, and all runners are invited to participate. Reflector vests of some sort are required.
