FTC Friday Night Five of Feb. 16th

Falmouth, MA, February 16, 2001

O'Mara & Olenick Top Field in Friday Night Five

by Ken Gartner

Where have all the Friday Night women gone? Last week there were only three women in the Friday Night Five, and this week only two women showed up. Mary Olenick took first place honors this week with her first Friday night win of the new year, while Carolyn Bird took second place honors for the second Straight week.

Bill O'Mara returned after a 4 week absence and out distanced Mike Norton for the over-all win. Steve Hamel and Jeff List both cracked the top 5 for their fourth straight week. They finished in a tie for fourth, just ahead of Dan Frye.

Steve Ballentine had a major setback in his Boston Marathon preparations. Somehow he slowed by 3 minutes and aged about 5 years, all in one week. Never-the-less, he isn't worried. After the run, many of the runners flocked to Coffee Obsession for a warm cup of tea.

The Friday Night Five is held every week at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for this self-timed event and all runners are welcome to participate. Reflective running gear of some sort is required for the winter.
