Michael Collins "Race For Freedom" 4.25M/2.6M

Cambridge, MA, August 23, 2001

Hosted by the Somerville Striders Athletic Club

Creme da la Creme Running...Creme da la Creme Volunteering...Former Ethiopian Marathon World Record Holder Belayneh Dinsamo was on the Eliot Bridge last night directing runners the right way along with Jose Moriera, 2:16 Marathon Runner and Former Ethiopian 100 Meter Record Holder Tsegi Wolde by his side...not a bad volunteer corp for the Michael Collins "Race for Freedom" and Charles River Ramble that ran concurrently tonight..

It took a Man from Cork, Ireland-Finbar Kirwin to win the race dedicated to the Man from Cork, Ireland-Michael Collins on this night of celebration of the on-going Peace Talks in Northern Ireland and the Irish Patriot, Michael Collins..

The Irish sewed up the 4.2 Mile "Race for Freedom" and the Ethiopians sewed up the 2.6 Mile "Charles River Ramble"....combined we created a huge "Peace Quilt"...

Irish Music, Irish Food and loads of Irish blarney filled the late summer evening on the Charles as well as loads of Irish searchlights scanning the banks of the Charles River looking for the potential women's winner in the 4.2 Miler..Carol Ostiguy of South Boston, Eire who was possibly the victim of a load of Irish mis-direction doing the 2nd loop a 2nd time...and eventually coming in last with a load of smoke for the race director...

The last night of the season on the Charles River is next week...the Charles River Ramble Relay...3 person team each doing the 2.6 mile loop...word out of Addissabba, Ethiopia is that we will have a elite team of ERC runners competing...Belayneh Dinsamo, Tesfaye Bekele and Bruke Taddisse..anyone in New England ready to take them on...
