International Flavor to Friday Night Five
by Ken Gartner
There wasn't much talking in the lead pack of this week's Friday Night Run. The two Italian runners didn't speak much English, and the American runners sure couldn't speak any Italian. Ulandt Kim and Steve Fluotico both raced home with their fastest times of the year. Jiuli Bastianon decided to squeeze in one more hard Friday Night Five run, before hopping a plane back home to Italy the next day. He moved up to fourth place this week, while his friend, Michele Bianchini, nabbed fifth. Mr. Bianchini showed no fatigue from last week's Boston Marathon which he ran in just over 3 hours.
Paul Hartel, Sandro Segalini, and Kris Tholke also had good runs despite also running Boston only 4 days earlier. Ms. Tholke took third place over-all, behind Stace Beaulieu and Pauline Lim. For Ms. Lim it was her first Friday Night win of the year.
The warm weather brought out several first time Friday Night runners. Dana Delorme and Nicole Grevelis both finished their first Friday Night Five without getting lost. They finished together in fifth place for the women. Ollie Zenk of Germany also made his Friday Night Five debut.
The Friday Night Five is held every week at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no charge for this self-timed event, and all runners are welcome to participate.
