17th Annual Heritage Run Attracts 700
Despite the early morning thunderstorms and drizzle, the 17th Annual
Heritage Run attracted nearly 700 runners, walkers and families to downtown
Rockford, Illinois. The air may have been humid, but the participants
stayed dry as the skies cleared for the start of the races at 1 p.m. on
Sunday, April 22.
Winners of the 10K were Julius Mwangi, 25, of Normal, with a time of 28:49,
in the men's division, and Lorraine Masouka, 38, of Green Bay, Wisconsin,
with a time of 35:45 in the women's division. Second and third place
winners in the men's division of the 10K were Henry Dennis of Madison,
Wisconsin, with a time of 30:18 and Jeff Jacobs of Roscoe with a time of
30:40. Carol Legate of Green Bay, and Jamie Rebman of Rockford were the
second and third place winners in the women's division, with times of 37:12
and 41:31, respectively.
Major sponsors of this year's Heritage Run were OSF Saint Anthony Medical
Center and OSF HealthPlans. Also sponsoring the event were Fox 39/WQRF-TV,
the MetroCentre, Rockford Area Amateur Radio Operators, YMCA of Rock River
Valley and WROK 1440.
