2001 Roxbury Race #37 - 4.8M

Roxbury, CT, November 10, 2001

Two Teachers Triumph

Pam Quist has a tidy little winning streak going here.  She's won 13 races so far this year, and this is the second time she's won three in a row. Sometimes, Pam and Peg Molina are close, but this week, Pam had two and a half minutes on Peg.

Among the men, it looked like a tight race for a while.  About ten people were all bunched up after half a mile.  But as they turned onto South Street, JT Schemm got the idea that somebody was taking advantage of the large amount of wind that JT blocks, and he threw in a surge.  Going into the turn, it was all bunched up, but coming out of it, it was all stretched out, with JT pulling away.

After a while, Newtown's Dan Maxwell and Dangerous Ken Merrick tried to catch up with JT, but it was futile.  At the end, Dan gave Dangerous Ken a demonstration of what a good 800 meter runner can do to a distance hack when it comes to a sprint finish.

The John Murphy/Chris Childs rivalry swung Murphyward for the third week in a row, this week by a mere two seconds.  Before that, it was five weeks of Childs domination.  Who needs Yankees/Diamondbacks.  We have Murphy/Childs!

This week's upper photo is Pam Quist, cruising toward the finish line.  Below is JT Schemm, this week's winner, earlier this season.  Way at the bottom are some of our regular women runners, a little earlier in the season. (CR Note: For photos, see Ed's Roxbury Race #37)
