Abraham, Gancher Tough in the Rain
The plot this week was eerily similar to last
week's race. Mike Abraham sets a blistering pace through the mile, 5:20
this week, to wear down a local high school star on his way to run track at
Central Connecticut State University. The kid fades to fourth place, while
the Old Fossil, Ed Sandifer, sneaks in to finish second.
This week's young victim was Justin Connor, a graduating senior
from Holy Cross High School in Waterbury, who came with his coach Art
Rodriguez.
The women's race wasn't as close as it should
have been. That hair pin turn at the two mile mark is kind of tough, and
Kyle did a better job on the turn than Lynn Zuback did, so Kyle was able to
sneak away with a win by about a minute and a half.
Terry Lyons and Mo van Moffaert heard a
different drummer this week, and ran 6.4 miles. They finished from the
opposite direction from the rest of the crowd, so the rookie finish line crew of
Mike Abraham and Ed Sandifer, trying to learn how to use the new printer
stopwatch, were looking the wrong direction when they finished. We'll
never know what their times really were.
This week's mug shot features (fast rising)
Paul Teixiera, Tom Miller and Bob Derringer, of key fame, chatting before the
group photo two weeks ago.
