Weather conditions were nice for this 8:00AM race, about 60 degrees and
cloudy but not raining with a steady but not bothersome wind. The streets
were wet from a pre-dawn rain. However, the threat of tornadoes later in
the day undoubtedly kept some runners away. Tornadoes in the afternoon did
significant damage within a 50 mile radius of Jacksonville. No one in
Jacksonville was injured in the tornadoes, but there was some significant
property damage in Jacksonville. There was no damage to the high school or
the race course. However, there was some damage to the pole vault equipment
at the Jacksonville State University track less than 3 miles from the high
school.
