KELLY KEELER WINS AVON RUNNING 10K AT FIRST TWIN CITIES EVENT

Staci Bennett is second; Janet Robertz is third and first master

Minneapolis-St. Paul - Kelly Keeler of Bloomington, Minn., captured the Avon Running-Twin Cities title today with a winning time of 36:09 in hot and humid conditions. Keeler, 38, is the 1999 Avon Running 10K National Champion, having won the Avon championship race in Cincinnati last October.

Some 1,200 women participated in the Avon Running event, which included a 10K run (6.2 miles) and 5K walk/run (3.1 miles) at Lake Nokomis in Minneapolis. The Twin Cities site is part of Avon Running Global Women's Circuit, which includes events in 10 U.S. cities and 12 countries.

As the Avon Running-Twin Cities winner, Keeler took home the $500 first prize and won an expense-paid trip to Phoenix, Ariz., for the 2000 Avon Running National Championship on Dec. 10. Second place and $250 in prize money went to Staci Bennett, 31, White Bear Lake, Minn., with a time of 37:35.

Third place and top master (over 40) runner was Janet Robertz, 40, Shorewood, Minn., in 38:15. She also won $100 and an expense-paid trip to the Avon Running National Champion-ship. First master after Robertz, was Judy Meyer, 40, New Brighton, Minn., who was fourth overall in a time of 38:21.

Leslie Boyer-Dwyer, 36, of LeSeuer, Minn., was the winner of the Avon representative division and also won an expense-paid trip to the Avon Running National Championship.

The top three finishers in the 5K, all from Minnesota, were Alison Stauber, 29, Plymouth, in 18:54; Zoe Nagell, 18, Plymouth in 18:55; and Mary Hirsch, 39, Edina in 20:42.

Working Opportunities for Women, the charitable beneficiary for Avon Running-Twin Cities, received a check for $5,000 from the Avon Products Foundation. The St. Paul career service organization for women, founded in 1974, also received $2,340 from race proceeds.
