Septuagenarian Toabe Runs Sub-Nines for 155th FTC Friday Night Five

Thirty-six runners finished the FTC Friday Night Five. The humid night didn't seem to bother Sid Toabe, as the 76 year old runner trotted home at sub 9 minute mile pace.

Pauline Lim ran 35:12 to finish first for the women, about two minutes ahead of Penny Christo of Forrestdale. Anne Beaudreau of Barrington, RI was third.

Steve Hamel and Dave Whitney shared the early lead but were overtaken by Mike Norton late in the race. In the end, Norton was 2nd, followed by Whitney and Hamel. Duncan Smith-Rohrberg and his former croach, Pete Sampson, ran together and finished tied for 5th. Brian Nelson was happy with his time of 32:45, but he was even more excited about finding his running shoes which he had left behind at the run last week. Remarkably, they were in the middle of Town Hall Square right where he left them one week ago.

The FTC Friday Night Five is staged by the Falmouth Track Club. It is held every week on Friday at 5:30 p.m. at Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee for this self-timed event, and all runners are invited to participate.
