154th Friday Night Five is Dedicated to the Golato Family
This week's FTC Friday Night 5 Miler was dedicated to the Golato family and named the "Golato Family Five Miler." Peter Golato and his family have been active in the Falmouth Track Club for many years. Peter served as president for a club record of 3 consecutive terms. The Golatos will be moving to Ohio at the end of the month and will be missed by their fellow Falmouth Track club teammates.
Special commemorative t-shirts were handed out this week to all finishers in the race. The flashy shirts were adorned with an original Gigi Golato drawing. A party followed afterwards at Courtney and Carolyn Bird's house. Peter Golato, the "man of the hour," finished the run in 40 minutes as he completed his 87th Friday Night 5 Miler. (That's a lot of 5 milers.)
Perhaps it was the good weather, or the festive occasion, or maybe the free t-shirts; but 46 runners turned out this week, the largest field of the new year. Both the men's and women's races were very tightly contested. Duncan Smith-Rohrberg may have lost a few steps at Harvard this year, but still ran sub 31 minutes and led a group of 4 runners who all finished within one minute of each other. Dave Warren temporarily came out of "retirement" to post a time of 31:08 and finish in 5th place.
Pauline Lim beat Paula Frantantoni by a mere 2 seconds and then dashed off to sing at the Woods Hole Community Center. Ellen MeCray and Penny Christo finished in 3rd and 4th.
The Friday Night 5 Miler is held every week at 5:30 from Two Hall Square in Falmouth. All are invited to participate. There will be no free T shirts next week, but there are rumors of a party after the run on June 23rd to celebrate the 3rd anniversary of the Friday Night 5 Miler.
