Friday Night Five Can't Beat Thunderstorm
Some of the Friday Night Five regulars were missing this week as they were home resting for the Paul White Road Race, which was held the following day. The dark ominous clouds to the north seemed to be very far away at the start, but in the end it was only the fleetest runners who made it to the finish before the thunder, lightning, and rain deluged downtown Falmouth.
Some of the runners seemed unfazed by the storm and just stood around after and used the cold rain to cool off. Others crossed the line and made mad dashes for their cars. Ken Gartner used an umbrella to shield himself from the elements -- until the umbrella began radiating electricity. Carolyn Bird, found herself halfway home on Surf Drive when the lightning bolts came down. She dashed under a house on stilts with a handsome man who was passing by, and the two of them waited out the storm together.
The storm quickly passed, and afterwards as the sun came out a huge perfect double rainbow lit up the sky. Many onlookers thought that it seemed to come down right over Liam McGuire's Irish Pub.
The Friday Night Five is held every week at 5:30 from Town Hall Square in Falmouth. There is no entry fee for this self-timed event, and no registration is needed. All runners are welcome to participate.
