Duo Wins Again
Well, everybody
likes Peg Molina, anyway, and the most common result of the season has been Peg
winning the Women's race and the Old Fossil, Ed Sandifer winning for the
Men. It happened again this week.
Peg had to deal
with Kimberly Thompson, who usually can't keep up with Peg on her best days, and
who didn't have one of her best days today. Peg won handily.
For the men, the
top six finishers were still together as they approached the mile mark. JT
Schemm took the lead, and 51 year old Rookie Tony Benivegna and the Old Fossil,
Ed Sandifer went after him. JT, once a WCC champion at 800 and 1600
meters, was making a big deal about how married life (since August) was treating
him well and how he's entering his first Clydesdale race next week, and Tony
talked about how he didn't know the course and would be turning 52 next
week. The Old Fossil, though, just hung in there and worried about if he
was going to get his butt kicked.
Then they got to
the bottom of the hill.
JT's Clydesdale
status caught up with him, and so did Tony. JT may be just as mean as
ever, but he's not quite as lean. Tony, though, should have realized that
all that downhill for the first half of the race would have implications for the
second half of the race. The Old Fossil sullenly marched up the hill to
rob poor Tony of the victory and to win for his 13th time this
season.
