April Fools 5K Run
New London, CT, April 2, 2000
Overall Results
On Sunday, April 2, 2000, Connecticut College hosted The April Fool's 5k Run,
after a two- year hiatus. Ninety-two runners completed the course, which was
run entirely on the College Campus. Kevin Gallerani, of Uncasville, was the
overall winner and top Master (40-49) in a time of 16:05. Thirteen year- old
Elizabeth Boucher of Groton, captured the women's overall and junior titles
running an impressive 17:29 on this course. Runners were mistakenly directed
off course, which resulted in shortening the official distance by approximately
1/4 mile. New Balance Athletic Shoes, Coca Cola, Manitock Spring Water, Kelley's
Pace, and the Woodbridge Running Company sponsored this event. Many local businesses
also provided merchandise prizes. Results were posted and awards were presented
in 1 and 1/4 hours, for this well run event. One highlight for the race consisted
of a group of elementary school students from Flander's Elementary School, in
East Lyme. They pinned red stars to their shirts and called themselves "All-Stars".
The students competed in the race with teachers and parents and were cheered
