Mission Statement

We are all touched by certain events in our lives. Some bring great happiness while others bring great despair. However all life changing events bring opportunities for positive outcomes. In the fall of 2010 the Glio-Blastoff 5K Run/Walk will be a dream come true.

Life dramatically changed for Joseph Basile one morning at his work in 2003 when he was rushed to the hospital after having a grand mal seizure. Days later his family learned that he had a deadly form of brain cancer, glioblastoma multiforme. Doctors informed his family that Joe had about 6 months to 1 year to live.

Being an experienced runner, Anne Margaret thought hosting this event and raising money for the American Brain Tumor Association would be a touching way to honor and remember her dad! On Saturday, September 18, 2010 we will begin an annual tradition that will start with the volunteers preparing for a great race day and ending when the last runner/walker crosses the finish line.

It is often said that when one door closes, another opens. This statement is indeed true. All situations, even the most horrific have some good outcomes. Thousands of people’s lives are changed on a daily basis due to cancer of all forms. However thousands of people are touched by those changes and turn the horrific news of cancer into positive possibilities for others.

Joseph Basile is no longer with us, but the life change he went through in his last year here on Earth touched countless lives and will continue to do so as we kick off the 1st Annual Glio-Blastoff 5K Run/Walk.
