Hi, My 11-year-old son recently joined a competitive track team. He's a middle distance runner (will probably be running 1500 and 3000 meter races). The coach told me I needed to get him spikes, and I got Nike Ventulus, which I was told were good middle distance spikes. But the coach says his feet seem to be "turning in" with them, and that he needs more support. Does anyone have experience with spikes? Any suggestions of which shoe would be appropriate? (I'm a long distance runner and know very little about track shoes!) Thanks, Karyn : )

Sorry, there are no motion control spikes. I think that is the proper response for this question. What I mean is that your son's coach sounds like he is suggesting that your son is overpronating in his ventalus (a really high level spike for an 11 year old might I add). Unless you can trade in those shoes and get some cheaper ones (say addidas titan or nike rivals) stay with the ventalus.

Thanks for the response. I went to a local running store today, and they suggested an Asics XC outback spike, which is a little less flimsy and has a little more support (but certainly no control features). It's probably a better cross country than track shoe, but as his level the ounce or so difference shouldn't be a big deal. (Or at least that's my take) As for the Ventalus, I got them on EBay fairly cheaply, not really knowing that it was a high level shoe : ) But he's more comfortable in the XC Outbacks, so I'm going to put the Ventalus back on Ebay. Thanks for your advice. Karyn

I'll buy them from you.How much? What size are they? I'm sure that they would fit some of the girls on my team.

Hi again, I already posted them on Ebay, but if they don't sell I'd be happy to sell them to you directly. The link on Ebay is: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=7118938610&ssPageName=STRK:MESE:IT If you can't get to them by that link, just do a search for Boys Nike Ventulus. They're size 8. I paid $36 for them, plus shipping. (Cheaper than the $54 I paid yesterday for the Asics XC shoes). Anyhow, you can also bid for them on Ebay...you might end up getting them even cheaper if no one bids against you. Thanks for your advice. Karyn P.S. What level do you coach? Where?
