Ska person: Man, you left out The Pietasters, The Bosstones, Dropkick Murphys and Flogging Molly. All are required listening.

ya dude all the bands u listed kick a$$ exept for the bosstones (i like the song "bartender song" but thats it), theres sumthin about his voice that i dont realy like, and i dont believe that they started the ska-core sound, and operation ivy didnt either, it was slapstick that started ska-core, but all of that really doesnt matter because the bosstones still started a wicked kick a$$ ska scene in boston, and i respect them because of that

I like the run the the Hives or the new Queens of the Stone Age. If you are a true skate punk you will know where I am coming from. Also look into the Breifs they are from Seattle.

Ska: I've never listened to Slapstick before. I'll have to check them out. Also, check out the Turbo ACs. They are relatively unknown "surf-injected punk band" out of NYC. They opened for Flogging Molly last time I saw them.

Thread drift.....What are the WORST songs to listen to (or have stuck in your head) when you're running?

How 'bout:
"Come and listen to a story 'bout a man named Jed..."
or
"....a three hour tour....a three hour tour..."

Personally, I can't listen to a walkman when I run because then I can't hear my breathing, and next thing you know I'm running too fast. I have tried cycling with a CD player, but as someone pointed out already, it's not really safe.

"And IIIIIIIIIII eee IIII, will allllways.....love yooouuuuu...."
That's the worst.

my coach is against listening to music while running...says listening to music while running is only for fitness enthusiasts and not true distance runners

while it's true you dont want to use a walkman while doing intervals on the track or while racing (because no one really prefers running hard or all-out with headphones on), Haile Gebrallaise (one of the best runners ever) of Ethiopia uses a Walkman on his easy days

so dude id say it's cool to use one while you're like going for a recovery run in the trails

gonna fly now (rocky)
chariots of fire theme
POD- Alive
incubus- Make Yourself (listen to the lyrics, its like my personal running song) Drive is good too
Marilyn Manson- Sweet Dreams
godsmack- "voodoo" and "i stand alone"
foo fighters- learn to fly

punk-ish stuff is also good even if dont normally like that kind of music... blink182 "adams song" jimmy eat world "the middle" eve 6 "leaving on a jet plane"

for those of u that listen to Limp Bizkit... etc. I can't do that i get too pissed off. I mean i've tried running 800 repeats listening to Break Stuff and my coach is like "what in the world are you listening too? you look furious"

to calm down and focus before races i like "shawn mullins" rockabye

also REM "its the end of the world as we know it" just in case i start getting too serious

Has anyone ever listened to "Fred Bear" (Ted Nugent) before an xc meet? It's perfect. Less Than Jake is quality. DMX is also nice for pre-race listening, actually, it's the only time I listen to it. "Amber" by 311 is great. I had it stuck in my head for an entire marathon and I didn't get sick of it, just helped.

Some good lines from songs: "there's a place up ahead and I'm goin, just as fast as my feet can fly" - CCR "Up around the bend"
"and i'll run in the rain till i'm breathless, when i'm breathless i'll run till i drop" - Led Zep "Fool in the Rain"

The best music to listen to before you run is something foul like Big Pun or Eminem, something so repulsive it makes you leave the house!

Ive gotta say that the only pre-race tape I can listen to is a mix of Offspring's fastest stuff. Most of it comes from their "Ignition" album, I think thats their best stuff. even if youre not too into it, its perfect adrenaline music. Download songs like "Session" or "Kick Him When He's Down" for a taste of this stuff. Its amazing before a race.

I don't listen to music while I run because I want to know where the cars (not the band) are. However in my head I hear songs from the Movie 'Jesus Christ Superstar' especially the one where Jesus decides to do God will and go get crucified. I like Shane MacGowen and Irish punk. When I used to run Bloomsday the theme from 'Rocky' always gave me a boost. The 'Charriots of Fire' theme was a little lame for a boost. Of couse I like folk music and most of you would think 'Poncho and Lefty' by Towens VanZandt or Wille Nelson would be much of a booster.
