Heavy metal is not good for xc races. All metal does is make you hyper, making you start off too fast.

Personally, I choose some songs off Morning View, November Rain by GnR, and Nothingman by PJ.

Bruce Springsteen works for me, especially "Born to Run." I only listen to music while running when I'm on the mill, which is a rarity. Techno is cool then, as you can really get into a rhythm. Moby's good. So is Eric Clapton (which reminds me that one of his best songs, a Hendrix original, is called "Little Wing").

Oh yeah, cougarcanyon runner is right on too. Old Stones stuff rocks. Hard to find a pre-1970 stones song that isn't awesome.

reef - "i'm not scared." they're a brit band that you may remember from a few years back with "place your hands." "i'm not scared is a great prerace song.

Yeah, you oughtta check out your song, little wing. Pick up a copy of "Layla" by Derek and the Dominos (headed by Eric Clapton), and look for your song. Jimi Hendrix wrote it, but I'm not sure which of his albums it's on.
