Here's a thread that pops up every now and then. What is everyone listening to lately? I'm looking for some new tunes to run to. My current favorites are:Live and Let Die - Guns n Roses Harvester of Sorrow - Metallica Promises - Fugazi Anarchy in the UK - Sex Pistols Love will Tear us Apart - Joy Division

Because I'm a dork, I usually use my running time to listen to NPR podcasts, especially On the Media (from New York Public Radio). They don't broadcast that here, so I get the podcast each week and listen to it on my 45-60 minute Thursday run. When I do listen to music ... right now it's the "Stadium Arcadium" album by the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.

The NPR podcasts are great. I usually listen to them on my long runs. If you're not already familiar, I also highly recommend a podcast on American Public Media called "The Story" and a running podcast called "Phedippidations" that's independently produced--great content on both!

I almost never run with music anymore. For a few years I had a buddy and now I run with my dog. Since, with him, I feel like have to be so much more aware of my surroundings, I don't use the head set. Plus, I know it's weird, but I feel it's rude, like running with a friend and using headphones, not that my dog and I are going to have a conversation or anything...------------------ Don't look back!

Podcasts mostly....NPR (This American Life, Le Show) and The Skeptics Guide to the Universe. For music, it depends on the speed. If I had a Million Dollars (Bare Naked Ladies) good for 9min/mile pace. Kodachrome (Paul Simon) is perfect for an 8 min/mile pace. Don't Stop Me Now (Queen) is a good 7 min/mile song. Three Small Words (Josie & the Pu$$ycats) is for sprinting. ------------------ Learn to joggle - sport of the future. http://justyouraveragejoggler.com

ACK!No wonder these local races are choosing odd bands to play along the course. You runners have some weird tastes. I'm just kidding, to each their own. For me its gotta be loud, upbeat, and angry to get my blood pumpin! Anything by TOOL, Metallica, NIN, Zombie, etc... Mental Health by Quiet Riot is the best (maybe its cause I can relate).

I totally second Tool and Metallica. I think Metallica composed songs specifically for the purpose of running, in fact.

I am more of a John Mayer fan, but you cannot run to it. Metallica is great every song by Maroon Five. Loose yourself by eminem Jump by house of pain. Sublime

How has nobody said anything by Survivor. If there's better music to run to than something from a Rocky training montage, I haven't heard it yet.

I don't run with music outside, but if I am forced to treadmill I HAVE to finish every run (whether it be 3 miles or 10 miles) with the same song-My Coco by Stellastarr.

Tool songs are so good to run to, cause they have such long songs. Also, System of a Down is good for that last part of my runs, when I need a good kick in the butt to power thru to the end.
