Brian McN - Congrats! I too am sorry you did not make your time, but I am glad you enjoyed the race. Your depiction of the race is exactly as I have heard it from others. I really want to do it one day as I have heard it is THE BEST tour of NYC. However, due to the conditions you describe, I will never run it (or Chicago) for time. HAHAHA. I say that, but who of us here actually executes that theory?! Anyway, nice job!

We have a lot of people tapering and it sounds like things are going very well....

bhearn - you only bring up srlopez cuz you want to bring the "its all relative" into how nuts we think you are! Seriously though, I can't wait to read the report. I fixed the posting error re Breakers too. Thanks.

Everyone else - if I missed a race report, let me know. We've had an awful lot lately.

I hoped for a 3:15 and ended up with a 3:15:57. That sounds a lot better than it felt!! Brooklyn was too fast, the final 8 mi. or so were rough. I think that I had a 5+ min. positive split. Not the way I like to finish. But, more info for the next one...

rbbmoose,

Ran my still illlusive pr in Philly. I was able to relax going into that start which I think was one of the reasons it went so well. Felt like I was going to hit the wall there also but it never happened.

Brian - did you run Philly ast year - what is your PR?
I've had pretty good success there and its local for me... The size used to be nice, but its grown quite a bit (with the half thrown in) - this year it sold out - not sure how many runners.

Yeah it was last year. I ran a 2:40 there. Felt the legs tanking at about halfway but I kept with the fight and held on. The trick for me was really trying to stay loose and enjoy the race early on. I really felt like I stole some miles from 3-10 by doing that. When the half Marathoners rejoin the course after the zoo they will have run less than you and they are also aiming for the finish. You have to tune them out because they can really mess with your pace. They leave the course at around 14 for you and then its the up and back along the river to that town. There were a couple of small hills around the trunaround and there was one little hill coming back to the city as the course went on an overpass but other than that it was a cruiser for the last few miles. Not a lot of people cheering but you get to see the other runners going in the other direction and we cheered each other on.
The crowd at the start was not that bad. I was able to get my usual warm up in and it was not too stressful. There were still quite a few people lined up where the sign said 5:30 - 6:00 pace who were running 8+ minutes per mile. But you will clear from those people within the first half of a mile.
Good luck and have fun.

Thanks Brian... I was there last year too (around 5 minutes behind you). I appreciate your course comments and encouragement - will let you know how it comes out. Sounds like you had a heck of a run last year.

Well, gang, I left the ranks of the Marathoners and have been ultra-running (got 14th out of 140 starters at the Arkansas Traveller last month! ) - but now I'm back!

Have a handful of marathon "training races" coming up in the next few months, but just started Pfitz 24/70 plan at the beginning of this week so I'll be checking in with my training at the end of this week.

Great to recognize a lot of names here and looking forward to swapping stories between now and Boston (the race I'm pointing for).
