Well bhearn, I am awestruck by you. With that said, I hope you chill now before you get injured!!! Seriously. You are way too valuable healthy to go do anything crazy! You can run slow every weekend in a few years. Now you are "Strong as bull" - show it!I loved your long "report" of the last several weeks. A new frontier you should be very proud of. Congratulations. I look forward to hearing what is ahead of you.

I have to report 3:40:31, due to injury (way outside my target of 3:05 and the 3:10:03 in Dusseldorf Marathon this May).189/565 OA men. 15/64 50-54 age-group It was 10 sec better than my personal worst, finishing- with a limp- my 12th consecutive Eurasia Marathon, 23 years after running my debut on the same course. I had not visualised then, me running through it at 50 yo. I am not prejudiced now; see you next year in Fall Marathon Trainers Thread. Stay healthy.

Hi all, Congrats to all fellow runners who ran marathons last weekend. Oguzkesimli, I'm sorry to hear of your injury, but good to see that you came through and completed yet another Eurasia marathon. That's an impressive record in itself. I completed my 3rd Dublin marathon last weekend. I beat my target, running a 2.58, and had a 2minute negative split, which is rare for me. I followed a 12-week Pfitz 55mile plan (actually more like a Pfitz60), but missed running for 2 weeks at beginning of September (IT band), and 2 weeks preceding marathon (calf muscle), so more than happy with the result, all things considered. I had a strong base, from Spring marathon training, followed by 2 months rest (no running) over the summer, which in hindsight may have contributed to the injuries. It's too early to say, but I may focus on shorter distances next Spring, and delay next marathon until Fall 08, but will see how I feel after a few weeks. Good luck to all those on this thread with upcoming races, and thanks for support and solidarity over the past few months. Cheers!

Welcome bigdave! And good luck with that upcoming 10K.Congratulations oguzkesimli! Sorry to hear of your injury. But it is very impressive that you are still marathoning after 23 years. Very inspiring. Congrats also, Deco on an very impressive race! Just think what could have happened if you hit all of your training! Wow. Recover well. Let me know if either of you post a full race report.

oguzkesimli, way to perservere, both in this race and over the last 23 years. Deco, beating your target by 2 minutes and negative splits has to feel good.I haven't run a step since Sunday, but I'm back in for another Fall marathon. I signed up for the NCR trail marathon on 24 November, which gives me 4 weeks between marathons. I did the same MCM/NCR double feature last year and survived (and knocked 13 minutes off my time), so maybe I'm not totally nuts. Now that I have my spot secured I can tell you that the NCR trail marathon is a great, BQ-friendly course. There's a funny article about it on coolrunning. I'm not sure of my training plan yet other than I'll run tomorrow. I have Pfitz book and the 4 weeks between marathon schedules. I also have my log of what I did last year (I somehow did 18, 20, and 18 mile long runs on the three weekends in between). I'm thinking I'm going to wing it and hope for the best. I'll put my goal down as 3:15:59 although I'm not sure I'll take the same race approach (7:27's come hell or high water).

Thanks, Bob. I am physically sore and mentally drained. Running-wise, its been a banner year for me with two marathon PRs, a 50 mile PR, and a tremendous experience with the 100 mile distance. I've accomplished everything I set out to do and will take some time before entering another race. Its time for me to step back and start a new training cycle. I do know however that Boston, for sure, is a goal for next year. Fun for me that I likely moved up a corral! Not sure if you remember from last year, but I ran 4 marathons (or longer) in 4 weeks in the month of September. Yet I was training for the 12-hour and 50 mile ultra. Not sure if that's the direction you want to go, but if it is you've displayed the ability to train for such an endeavor. I could talk endlessly about ultra training, but yeah, this is the "Marathon Trainers" thread. I too think you can still go faster in the marathon before becoming a full-fledged marathon maniac.

Bob - I'm not sure how to fully guage my recovery yet as it is still only a couple of days out, but I will try. Mentally, I am ecstatic and looking forward to setting some new goals. Physically, I am way more beat up than I was after my marathon 3 weeks ago, but probably no more beat up than I was after my BQ race last fall. And I am less sore than I was after Boston. A flat course helps. The good news is that all of my soreness is limited to muscle soreness. I am happy to report that I do not feel injured and there are no lurking pains. I just did my first recovery run and it was very slow, but it definitely loosened up the legs some. HOW ARE YOU FEELING? I was thinking of you today while running and wondering how you did them so fast back-to-back. Amazing. ~R

Lloyd, congrats on the banner year. Recover well. I think I'll also move up a corral at Boston, which will be nice... if I run it. I haven't committed to training through another New Hampshire winter just yet. I've sort of avoided thinking seriously about ultras so far. My life is not settled to the point where I can really consider that kind of training time commitment. I think if I were going to jump in the JFK 50 miler would have been the place to do it, but it's too late for that anyway. Interesting to see that what I've been doing is in line with ultra training, though. Still waiting for that RR! runninlaw, good to hear you are recovering. I still feel fine... apart from coming down with a nasty cold. Not the slightest bit of muscle or joint soreness. I'm still kind of nonplussed by this. But then I didn't run anywhere near a PR effort for the most recent two marathons. Not sure whether I will try a recovery run today or not. My legs are chomping at the bit, but overall I feel like climbing back into bed. Enjoy setting your new goals! I have yet to think about that myself. I'm still not really within striking distance of 3:00. sub-3:10 was a long time coming; I'm going to savor that a while.

Congratulations! I loved reading you race report - sounds like you had an awesome time. Sorry about the bee - yikes! Recover well and relish this experience (not that you need anyone to tell you to)! Oh yeah, and thanks for the links - I didn't have the direct link to your Steamtown report, but it is now updated. Good luck to everyone running this weekend - esp. BrianMcN!!
