I have read your posts (hundreds of them on several websites) for several years now and all of them except one were courteous, friendly and full of respect. On balance, your impact out here among the kilobytes is far far far more posive than negative, and you just erased the negative by your apology. Before you leave you should know that thousands of runners around the world will lose access to your practical, friendly and straightforward advice when you stop posting. So I ask you to reconsider your decision. Stick around, if only on your own forum.

Ditto what Tigger said.Tinman, I don't know what happened behind the scenes but you felt it warranted an apology. Done! Over with! You have mine and most others complete support and backing. On our personal communications I have always pushed for you to participate more here on Coolrunning and as of late you have and it is much appreciated by 99% of us. I hope you will continue and definitely reconsider your plans at year's end. Also, many of are going to buy that book of yours which I know is getting closer to being completed. ------------------ Todd

I don't know if we can vote, but in case it would make a difference, my ballot is for you to stay on-line.

Tinman, I've just found this thread. I've written something like this to you before. If you become a public figure, and you've become one in our little internet running world, you will draw some criticism from time to time. Hell, I even got slammed at Letsrun once for reading a Runner's World article in Borders rather than buying the magazine and I'm nowhere near as public as you are. I think you've been very helpful to a lot of people and I generally think of you as one of the folks who knows what they're talking about and I don't think that about a whole lot of people. So I really think you should hang on and endure the occasional critic. Nobby and I were talking earlier today and even though the last exchange he had with you wasn't pleasant, he agreed that you help a lot of people. Still, if you've had enough you've had enough. But if that's the case, I have to ask, why wait until Christmas?

Rengle -Thanks for your kind words of support! Why Christmas? Our first child is due on December 24th (yes, we will be old, first-time parents!). I start graduate studies, again, in September, which will consume a lot of time, yet I'll still be working full time. And, when the baby arrives, I will be getting less sleep and need to be part of my child's upbringing. Hope that makes sense! Take care and thanks! Tinman runfastcoach@gmail.com

I assumed you were the one who shared my ideas with McMillan, since you are friends and have a business together. Such an assumption has no factual basis, only a guess, and for that I can only say that I was wrong and I appologize to you .Do I think you and Nobby have been duped by McMillan, I'll reserve that to my home. Do I think you deserve more respect than I gave you? Yes, absolutely. I was a hot-head and that have been rash in my expression. Again, I am sorry. The one thing I know about you is that you care about your runners and you have expressed yourself well in thoughts and deeds. I wish you well and God's blessings in the future. If it is any consolation, I will not be a problem for you or others in the future. I plan to stop coaching on the national and international level, altogether. Maybe in a couple years I'll coach some high schoolers, but that's too far off to think about now. Regardless, after Christmas, I won't be on the internet and will be out of your hair for good. Hopefully that will ease some of the discomfort I've caused you and anyone else. Take care and good luck! Tinman
Tinman, I appreciate and accept your apology. Doubtless, your earlier remarks were the product of a mistaken assumption. With that said, I want to add my voice to those of others who expressed regret at your decision to cease posting on this and other running-related sites. Those who want to run faster and smarter and the folks who want to coach them will be the poorer for your absence. As an "old" Dad myself, let me offer my congratulations on the impending birth of your first child. My three-year-old just came in and asked me to zip her into the Tigger costume she wore last Halloween--it is my sincerest wish that you have many wonderful moments such as that with your own child;o) May the blessings of God be with you and your family, Tinman, now and forever! All the best, Jonas

That is something I do every day! More seriously, I too am an older dad, but my kids are now 20 and 17 and both in university. I spent many hours with them as they grew up. They were the most delightful hours of my life, and I regret that they are over forever. Enjoy young children while you can, because they grow up faster than you think!

I am a father of a 2 year old daughter. You are so right. Kids are the greatest things in this world when they are yours. Once you become a father you will not believe how much more meaningful life becomes. I always thought kids were whining snobbing brats until I had my own. Again I will repeat this (parenthood) will be the best thing that ever happened to you not even close.

Tinman, I was 39 and 43 when my kids were born. I had more time and money than I would have had if I'd been 10 years younger. I also had more appreciation of how quickly the years go by so I was determined to spend as much time with them as I could. It's been as great an experience as I could have. But it helps to hold onto some things that matter to you. If you find the time to stick around...

rengle -I am 40 and my wife is 45, and we are first-time partents! I never dreamed that would happen! I am excited, to say the least. Indeed, you are right, we have more money than we did 10 years ago, which will help in raising our child. Also, no doubt, we are more at ease with ourselves. Tinman
