Outstanding Alan,

I just finished your report and enoyed reading it. You are back!

Does the 10k you plan on running on New Years happen to be the "Run for a Healthy World" in the Baylands?

If so I will warn you that despite being flat it is a slow course. I've run it several times and enjoy the races over there, but can usually count on running as much as a minute slower--possibly even more--than on a flat paved course. A lot of it is on dirt with uneven footing. Of the certified courses I see on "The Schedule" your best bet is probably "Together with Love" on Feb 10 in Pacific Grove.

thanks Jim - yes it is that 10k. i ran it last year and realise it's not a fast course - plus it's often pretty windy but i'll give it a shot. if it goes badly i'll look into that one in feb - thanks, alan

My New Year's Resolution will be to break 40 in a 10K. I have a marathon to get out of the way in February (Black Mountain Marathon) and then, after a little break, I'll be joining a speed training group at a local running store. The emphasis will be on track work and racing local 5ks and 10ks. At 52 years old, I don't have too many more years to do this, so it's got to be in 2008. I'll keep you posted.
