I make vegetarian chili routinely, though I can understand why its status would be questionable. But my argument is thus: chili's main attributes are mouthfeel and flavor -- items I can recreate with judicious use of lentils, barley or (wait for it) wheat berries (I think I just heard Randymar's head hit his desk) and spices/beer/cocoa/onions, etc., as noted above. I'm not a vegetarian, btw. I just cook without meat where I can, because I like animals, not for health reasons, although that's a nice side benefit. Plus, I like fatty things on top of chili: avocado, sour cream, cheese, and it's a nice counterpart to the grains, especially topped with a scattering of cilantro and some scallions. I know I'm alone on this one, with my wussy chili. The ex-husband is making it with meat...HE was vegetarian for fifteen years, until we got divorced, and something about that made him head straight for animal products. Its kinda weird.

There was a bar I went to in St. Louis that served white chili. I'm not sure but believ it had chicken in it. It sounded gross but was actually quite good.

30 pages of beer, travel, knitting, bourbon and you chime in about chili?Okay white chili it is..for that matter - red chili, meat chili, bean chili, veggie chili - it's all fine as long as it does what it's suppose to do... What beer are you serving with the white chili?

This was a bar IN ST. LOUIS take a guess what beer they were serving with it. I'll give you a hint it wasn't Schlaffley's.

ok gang, I have a real job for you all. A quest if you will. I am in the process of tweeking an original recipe from papazian to my own (misguided) tastes. I figure 'm a batch or two (maybe three) away from perfection. (Trying to create an interesting hops profile against a light grain-bill).Anyhoo, its an ale (technically a "steam" ale; using lagar yeast and brewing at ale temperatures) I'm gonna name it "You fat Basturd" Ale, after my favorate tarpon and lizard fish tournament in Key West (now defunct I believe). I need images of fat guys etc or appropriate artwork for a custum label. I'll pick and choose and design a label accordingly. Please provide links if you happen on any such images (keep em clean please) As an incentive, I'll mail out the finished product (limit one bottle per customer). This is gonna take a while so don't expect anything before Thanksgiving. Thanks in advance

Not to bail on your request, but couldn't you go on "photo safari" at a nearby flea market??? WalMart maybe???There's got to be many, many prime candidates in real life that would be perfect for such an image.

You want me to be a paporazzi (sp?) to the gravity challenged? No thanks. FYI, I'm working with the citrusy hops, centenial (whopping alpha rate and cascade)

There was no beer at Midnight Bingo in the Assumption Parish Church Hall, this past Friday night ... that may have been a blessing.

Okay – It is only Monday and I’ll admit a little early for this, but what the heck – • JamesV and goingdownsouth seem to have stopped their Yuengling discussion • Trail is most likely back from vacation • RunMonkey – “hello” – stop moping and get out here • webfoot has most likely just finished the last of the homebrew that was hanging around the basement and had worked out a label • Randymar and MM have finished the t-shirt design • therealman seems to have stopped in for a minute So I’m throwing down the gauntlet – which is superior - Spaten or Paulaner? We should start this quickly though before Trail starts her first mead recipe

Back from a rainy, sultry, beer-infested journey that ended as it began, sitting in my yard with a beer, listening to a very bad band play a neighborhood party. The skies saw fit to unleash all manner of anguish on 7/22 and it was because a band was killing "Whiter Shade of Pale" as I opened my first Golden Monkey. I choked first on the line "One of sixteen special virgins" as the band murdered their song, then again on the Monkey- good Lord! It tasted like an herbal tea and beer flavored liquid candle. And the heat! Holy freaking moley! Too danged "tasty" for this light beeraholic. Hop Devil was worse. Dank, nasty and like the Monkey, I smelled like it for hours.... In honor of Randymar, I had a Dogfish Head Ale as I wandered about the parking lot of Ozzfest, chased by adolescents asking me how old I was. ( People also kept calling out "Phil Lesh" at me, maybe because of my tie dye.I seem to not fit in any culture these days and care not a whit).Back to work today, ugh, with a killer week ahead. My running is teh suck, no injury other than heat intolerance. Oh, the Beave pounded down FOUR Golden Monkeys last Sat,before we headed out to dinner. I had to drive and made him pay, but only for dinner.....
