Oddly enough, in my search for lower cal beers (seriously trying to lose weight to ELIMINATE shin issues) I have found that at least a few N/A beers taste MUCH better than same lights and most ultra lights!

In order of preference: Buckler, O'douls amber, O'douls regular

The new Becks light, undrinkable. almost.

And I'm down four pounds!

Way to go, Gjude!

Tonite is the night: Golden Monkey. Thanks Beeries for steering me to trying new beer. I don't like a lot of them, so far, but I'm trying them. Thanks!

Have not, but tried a friend's once and really liked it. Sounds like a good idea.

True dat...

Their Sunshine Pils is also rather sublime on a hot summer day... Or any day, for that matter.

Rogue Dad's Little Helper
quote:

"This ain't your Dad's malt liquor" - Brewmaster John Maier

After the death of his wife, Henry Jackson Smart was left to raise 6 young children alone. His courage, love, selflessness and dedication inspired his daughter, Sonora Smart Dodd, to organize the First Father's Day on June 19th, 1910. In 1924 President Calvin Coolidge proclaimed the third Sunday in June as Fathers Day. President Nixon, in 1972, established it as a permanent day of national observance.

Dad's is brewed with Harrington and Klages malts, Flaked Corn, Crystal Hops, Free Range Coastal Water, and Czech Pils Yeast. Available in the spring of 2005 in the classic 22-ounce Rogue micropiece.

I saw this Friday and had to give it a shot. Smooth and creamy. Not knock you on your butt strong, but a little bit of a punch just the same.

I couldn't drink it right out of the bottle, but didn't want to pour it into a glass either, so I used a red plastic picnic cup.

…at a time

It was Saturday evening when I opened the fridge and was faced with a choice – Smuttynose or Harpoon IPA. I would be drinking only one, so there was significance in my choice. Smuttynose would be the obvious as Harpoon is so readily available…on tap that is and this is a bottle – a bottle not usually seen in my fridge. I should really just make a choice and close the door, but no – I picked up the two bottles and compared them side-by-side. Harpoon with its blue and yellow label, a strange mixture of nautical and floral themes that have no obvious relationship to each other holds no comparison to the Smuttynose label. Call me what you will, but I could see myself a few years from now sitting in one of those chairs a few years from now. Perhaps my friend Randymar would be sitting next to me discussing BEER, sharing gardening tips and arguing over the Dixie Chicks. I was sold. One step to my right brought the bottle to my indoor mounted bottle opener. I took my first sip and knew that “yes” I had made the right choice. My beer followed me around the house as I folded some laundry, flipped through the mail and then went outside where El Señor provided me with a plate of food. Grilled fish, salad and bread enhanced the beer and the beer enhanced my meal. As the evening darkened, my Smuttynose and I curled up on the couch with a book. I finished a chapter, paused to think about what I just read and took the last sip. A good sip indeed. As I wandered over to the fridge, reached in and then opened up a Harpoon IPA, I had every desire to enjoy this one as much as the Smuttynose, because I do tend to drink them one…at a time.

Has anyone had the experience with bottled Victory of lots of foam when poured into a glass? It seems like everytime I've bought Prima Pils, and even if it had been in the fridge for a few days, as soon as I uncap it and pour it, its mostly foam in the glass.

Smuttynose DOES have the best labels, even though they don't always match each other.

Lawn chairs, sweetie??? Nah, I think we're Adirondack chair people.

I had their Big A IPA last week. I'd put it on a par with HopDevil.

James, slow down and work on your techniche (and I'll work on my spelling), Victory pours just fine.

as far as my ficklre humble and often just plain wrong opinion; the prima is fine, just to much money for that particular pils..no character, way to clean. And I'm a BIG Victory fan.

I seem to remember MM had some advice on this - I'll see if I can get him over for a reply.

I LOVE Prima Pils but, put a gun to my head, and I would pick Hop Devil over PP almost every day of the week...

I'm too far North to experience that level of drama very often.

I was in No Carolina for work recently and found a local diner. The sign leading into the place read "please leave all firearms outside".

The food was great.

There's one down the road that says "Hunters Welcome"

It also says "Please check all guns and knives at the door"

In case anyone was wondering, the beer choice was easier to make on Sunday. It was simply a question as to what would taste better with my Girl Scout cookies - Carmel Delites - formally known as Samoans.

Ahhh the South - hospitality, food and Bourbon. Being rather small, what scares me are the bugs and the alligators. I saw Adaptation - I know what can happen.

First of all, some of the bugs are bigger than you are, so they may be scared of YOU.

Secondly, two Nicholas Cages, in ANY movie, are way scarier than alligators.

Sorry - can't honor that. Knob Creek or Maker's Mark? Manhattan, Bourbon Sour or straight up?

Warning - never (and really I do stand by this one) never order bourbon in Canada. If you think their beer is sketchy...

Better to bring your own, order an empty glass and pull out your travel flask.

Manhattan, for me please, sweetie.

Or, as I learned to make it: "Bourbon Martini"

We were drinking Mint Juleps downnashore last weekend ... just because.

Straight. Perhaps with a cube of ice or two, just to bring out the aromas and flavors more. Maker's Mark was my first good pour. Knob Creek is good. Blanton's and Elmer T. Lee are perhaps my favorites...
