Not to muddy the waters of Gjude's light beer question, but Blue Moon is COOR'S????

Is somebody going to take my lefty card away if they see? I actually wouldn't have bought it if I'd known. I know that makes me sound like I'm falling all over myself in a PC fugue state but I like my beer brewed by friendly hippies with bumper stickers advocating un-electable politicians.

Re. 'light' beer -- I've mentioned before that I've lost a bunch of weight in the last year (like thirty or forty pounds, I'm only 5'4 so it's noticeable) but in order to do that I had to count calories. Imagine my dismay when I found that one Sierra Nevada - just one! - was 200 calories.

In the early part of my weight loss, before I really figured out how it worked and got confidant about it, I skipped dinner a couple of times, just to drink beer. No regrets.

Hence the prologue to "400 Beers"

quote:
Some time ago, while on the stationary bike on the gym, I started wondering how much I weighed when I was racing really, really, well (39:20 10K PR, 18:36 5K) I figured I've gained 10 pounds since then, most of it in the past 5 years. Ten pounds X 16 oz./pound X 28 grams/oz. (don't ask how I remembered that) X 9 calories per gram of fat yields 40,320 extra calories I've neglected to burn off. Divide by 100 calories per (light) beer and it's roughly 400 beers. Actually, it's 403.2 but I didn't think "403.2 Beers" had a good flow (so to speak) and I think I burned up the extra 3.2 while doing the math (I had to figure it right then, right there, on the bike, sans calculator)

I couldn't stay on the "1 Light beer = 100 calories = 1 mile" path ... it's more like "1 good beer = 200 calories = 2 miles" but I didn't want to change the title.

Life is Short ... Make Fun of It.

No wonder Blue Moon appeals to me.I like light beer: Miller
and Coors, whatever weighs less, calorie wise.
I've lost 30 pounds by running and not eating all day long at
work, like everyone else does. Came off fast, it did,and I get
a lot more work done.

I've had beer as a meal substitute, and as an appetizer, and
as a dessert substitute.

I was referring to "lesser in caloric value". The majority of what I drink is not near-clear beer. I'd like the equivalent of Bass Ale, but with 100 cal/bottle.

Let me clarify ... I'm only on hiatus from surfing.

Once my daughter learns to swim, she wants me to teach her to surf.

She likes "Gidget."

That is an amazing list of former occupations. It is quite
possible that I will never be "retired" in the traditional sense.
Will likely be working until I cease to be in this form.

Sadly, I don't know the calories on anything like that. (Actually, I don't know the calories on anything AT ALL)

Now, I have a friend who really likes the Michelob Ultra ...

We saw "Cars" yesterday. Not a bad movie, just not one of Disney / Pixar's best ... not "boyish" enough for little boys; not "girlish" enough for girls ...pretty predictable. Visually stunning though, for the landscapes alone.

None of the cars were sponsored by beer companies, that I could tell.

I ran a 10k Sat,and then had beer afterward. Sun, I walked
around the art festival. I am ordering a pair of fangs. They look
very real, and "are comfortable". It makes no sense, but I want
them. When the neighbors bug me, I shall don them and hiss.

Not sure how fangs are art but what do I know? The beer garden was packed! No one was wearing fangs there.

WTTW: It's really hard to drink beer with fangs. They tend to get hung up on the edge of the glass.

I will keep that in mind. Fangs for the tip! Pretty sure I will get
them, and then rarely wear them, but they look great.

Saw an ariticle that xanthohumol found in hops inhibits a specific protein in the cells along the surface of the prostate gland . Anyway article indicated that ingredient and thus beer consumptiion might help prevent prostate cancer and / or prostate enlargement .

Only catch is that the amount of xanothohumol is so small that to be meaningful one would have to drink at least 17 beers . Inference was 17 per day which might I guess lead to other problems.

I heard than on NPR yesterday morning as well. The follow-up was that brewers in Germany are working with a way to concentrate the Xano-whatever so that a more reasonable amount (say, a six-pack) will carry the proper "dosage"

Thanks for doing the research for me.

Here's a pint on the house for you. Cheers.

More good news - from NPR this morning

quote:
A study shows coffee may help offset liver damage caused by alcohol abuse. Alcoholics who drank more coffee were far less likely to develop cirrhosis. But researchers warn that coffee does not erase all risks of heavy drinking.

Why is NPR telling me these things at 6:30 AM, when I've just finished my morning run and sometimes want a beer???

I'll play, then: I am a retired fruit picker, housecleaner, makeup
artist, hairdresser, salesperson, bill collector. I also spent 1
summer working for the town, painting and pulling weeds. I fell
off the back of a truck and bruised my coccyx, which put a
big cramp in that summer's fun.
