Weyerbacher Hops Infusion quote: from the website: Thermonuclear libation! If you're a "hophead" you'll really enjoy this flavor-bomb of a beer from the brewers at Weyerbacher. First brewed in 1998 and served only at the Weyerbacher Brew Pub (now closed) proving grounds, Hops Infusion was a huge hit with the resident hopheads. So in the summer of 1999 we decided to release it in bottled form, and the response was, well, explosive! Hops Infusion exhibits fine malt characteristics - this beer has undeniable character and body. Glowing a deep amber color, Hops Infusion is brewed with seven types of hops. The result is unmistakable -- hop-heavenly flavor with, spicy, sharp citrus notes. Target, Magnum, Cascade, Liberty, Willamette, Fuggles and E. Kent Goldings give this beer the complexity that's so interesting. Many hoppy beers are focused on a single variety of hops. Our brewers intention on Hops Infusion was to create a complexity of hops flavor and aromas, not found in any other beer. "I could become addicted to this beer!" -- Michael Jackson, Beerhunter, during his visit to Weyerbacher in Spring 2002 "The beer itself has a 'honeyed hop' character that's almost like eating hop candy, and a long bitter finish that just doesn't quit." --Lew Bryson, Beer Writer and Author of Pennsylvania Breweries We brew Hops Infusion (6.2% ABV, 1.065 OG) all year 'round. So if your local beer store doesn't have it, tell 'em to get moving! Hops Infusion -- A safe, clean, renewable resource
Okay, we all know know the the benchmark for IPA is DFH :60 IPA. So that rates a 10. Anything not up to DFH loses points.(DFH :90 IPA is 11, :120 is 12) Hops Infusion is not as pale as DFH. It's a little deeper in color than :60's rich amber. It's more of a dark copper. I laike my pale ale to be "pale." Not quite pilsner pale, but light. Lose 1/2 a point. Hops Infusion pours a nice thick creamy head. Too thick in fact. It took a while for it to settle down. My first sip was nearly all foam. Foam makes me burp. I don't like to burp, especially at the dinner table. F@rting's fine, but please, no burps. Lose 1/2 a point. Hops Infusion has a wonderful aroma. A caramel orange scent that is really inviting. 1/2 a point back. Okay, with a name like "Hops Infusion," I was totally expecting the above-mentioned "flavor-bomb" ... nope. More like a bottle-rocket. It's in the Blind Faith range. Lose a whole point (c'mon if it's in the name, you have to pull it off!!!) That put Hops Infusion at ... let me get my Excel up here ... 8.5. You know what??? I'm taking another 1/2 off for the cheesy box.

Wow, didn't mean to post three times. Yeah, I meant Nue Belljum... Tried two recommended beers, one from this thread, Dogfish Head IPA 60 and one from a friend, Coopers Sparkling Ale - Australian brew. The IPA 60 is definately the big toe of hopped-up ales. A couple of IPA 60's and allergy shots on the same day is not recommended. Coopers was a surprise for an Australian brew. Fruity flavor, and cloudy? It may be from an german recipe/brewer. It's a lot like a weiss. Worth a try. Four more days and I will turn my mind to Mai Bock...Starkbierzeit.

So, TRM, a question???If you put the beer glass down for 4 weeks before the Marathon, or about one day per mile, LT and I should probably hide the bottle opener (no, that's NOT a euphemism) until after our 10-miler next Sunday - May 7???

I wonder who brews that for them. Shlitz probably, they do the brewing for Sam Adams. Uno does have Grolsch. Are they still doing that? I went throw it during the '96 Olympics. It was fun but not all that educational. One of the beers I brewed once was like that; very thick head. I remember popping the cap off on and instead of pouring it into a glass right away I let it sit for a couple minutes. When I returned the foam was pushing out of the bottle like playdough from a play dough factory. quote: Originally posted by randymar: So, TRM, a question???If you put the beer glass down for 4 weeks before the Marathon, or about one day per mile, LT and I should probably hide the bottle opener (no, that's NOT a euphemism) until after our 10-miler next Sunday - May 7???

I finally got around to bottling my Maple Kolsch last night. I can tell from the hydrometer tasting that it is going to be quite good but the maple didn't seem to have much effect. Maybe it will make it's presense know after bottle conditioning is complete. The particulars so far: O.G. 1.060 F.G. 1.014 Alcohol by weight: 4.8% Alcohol by volume 6.0% Pretty strong for such a light beer. I didn 't reduce the grain bill to compensate for the sugar in the maple sap.

As long as we are at it - I would take off another 1/2 for their name in general - "Weyerbacher Brewing Company was founded in 1995 by Dan and Sue Weirback. The company name is the original spelling used by the first immigrants from Germany about 200 years ago. The spelling has morphed slightly over time, but we thought the original sounded best for the brewery." It feels too much like a marketing ploy - I resent that.

I tried Skinny Dip over the weekend. Funnyish story: I came home with said six-pack on the passenger seat of the truck - which Zoe had been loyally guarding the entire ride home - when I pulled in and there was my neighbor, Michael Jackson (I crap you ne pas), just walking out the door with his shih-tzu, Chase. So Zoe and I jump out, and Mike and I proceed to swap shih-tzu stories while the dawgs do their impression of a writhing, pee-spraying ball of fluff with four large eyeballs. Then it occurs to me: why not have a brew while we chat? So I start telling Michael about this new beer I got with lime in it while I reach for the passenger door, and CRASH the six-pack dumps out cap-first onto the ground. The bottles stay in-tact, but they're all fizzing and spraying furiously, so Michael - always cool-headed and together in a beer-emergency - runs into the house, grabs his bottle-opener, returns and starts popping tops. So we finished the whole six-pack in about 30 minutes (which probably amounted to about 2 and a half beers each), and I have to say that we were definitely refreshed, but not really very impressed. "New Belgium’s Skinny Dip is a full-bodied, figure-friendly beer perfect for the lightly attired summer months." "Full-bodied"? Nope. "Figure-friendly"? Gosh, I hope so. I don't know about you lot, but those other fancy summer beers go straight to my hips. Lime? Ehh... a little. It was pleasant enough, but why make a whole other beer that's only marginally different from their Blue Paddle Pilsner? And why buy either when they're still offering Sunshine Wheat? And why buy any of these at all when Prima Pils is one shelf down? So I went back to the store on Sunday and, well, Victory was mine.
