Yeahhhh......I like this thread. Belgian Brewing Company. Any takers? The summerwheat ale is excellent. Fat Tire Ale is solid, sometimes a bit sweet for me. This past winter they brewed a seasonal 2 Below Zero Wnter Ale that's excellent. Only problem is they don't distribute east of the Mississippi. I'm hearing rumors that they will soon.

Noquickfix - you mean New Belgium? ; ) They're great. They've done an amazing job of marketing and distributing Fat Tire in the southwest, thereby snagging hordes of devotees who will one day, undoubtedly, turn to their friend and say "hey, I hear these flat tire guys have some other coals in the fire". I love the Bier de Mars in March, and then the Frambozen around Thanksgiving. Everybody's been travelling, yeah? I just got back from a week in Chicago. A real week - not like the fake week I spent there three years ago. Unbelievable town. Lisa actually admitted to me on the way home that she (wait for it...) "kinda likes it more than Boston." : O

Unfortunately, I think Fat Tire has been ... what's the word I'm looking for??? ... "pimped" out to MTB riders in Boulder and Moab, many of whom have adopted it as THE off-road beer, without even knowing why. I could - if I wanted to - buy an entire Fat Tire Ale bike outfit (jersey, shorts, socks, hat and pint glass) online WITHOUT even trying it, just to say "Hey! I ride a bike!" quote: Everybody's been travelling, yeah? I just got back from a week in Chicago. A real week - not like the fake week I spent there three years ago. Unbelievable town. Yeah, well, I kinda like Philly more than Boston, but that doesn't make me a bad person. Rumor has it that, in the winter, you can actually SURF in Chicago. Wow, I got bike riding, beer and surfing, all into the same post. Go me!!!

<<< This just in >>> quote: Scientists working on beer for menopause Prague - Women struggling with the discomforts of menopause may soon find relief in a cold glass of beer. Experts in the Czech Republic are working on a beer specifically brewed for women experiencing hot flashes, troubling sleeping and other woes during this phase. The low-calorie, low-alcohol beer being developed by the Prague-based Research Institute of Brewing and Malting contains heightened levels of phytoestrogen, a plant form of the hormone estrogen often lacking in menopausal women, said the institute's director Karel Kosar. High levels of phytoestrogen Phytoestrogen is found in the hops and barley malt used in many types of beer. Kosar said breweries could produce the special beer by increasing the levels of these ingredients. A gynaecologist working with the institute reported good results from clinically tests with the beer on 20 women. The volunteers who drank three decilitres nightly for two months reported fewer menopausal symptoms. The gynaecologist, Dr Milan Anton of Masaryk University in Brno, plans to expand the research. - Sapa-dpa
Not that the girls here in "BEER" need to worry about this yet, but it is something to look forward to.

Speaking of which: quote: New Belgium Skinny DipNew Belgium’s Skinny Dip is a full-bodied, figure-friendly beer perfect for the lightly attired summer months. Cascade hops frolic with kaffir lime and ample malt to create a bright, citrusy nose that’s as crisp as chilling in a mountain pond. Skinny Dip * a most revealing beverage. 110 calories per 12oz serving 7 grams carbs ABV 4.2%
4% seems a little light for my needs ... How many would I have to give a chick before she got naked with me???

Man, this is good stuff. All this just makes me wonder why you don't have a beer/health/jam band website of your own - beyond the blog, that is.

I actually like the idea of adding lime to a lager during the brewing. Has that been done before? Seems like one of them Mexican breweries should've thought of that years ago...

While clipping coupons Sunday - YES!!! I do!!! - I came across these: Cream stout ice cream swirled with chocolate ice cream We've no idea how many Ben & Jerry's fans might be beer enthusiasts, but we suspect that once you've tasted the way we've blended real cream stout ice cream with a whirl of chocolate ice cream, you might soon be raising more than a few pints of Black & Tan - and more than a few brew-aha!'s too. Vanilla ice cream with fudge & caramel cashews & a caramel swirl If you ever needed a reason to come out of your shell, this is it! Our ice cream tribute to turtles includes all the chocolatey-chewy-nutty stuff so classic to turtle cluster treats, sure to soothe just about anybody's cashew yearnings. Coffee liqueur ice cream with a chocolate cookie crumb swirl & fudge cows We interrupt ourselves with much hooting through tin horns to bring you this brilliant new ice cream, made from dried shrubbery and old cereal packets. This is a ripping good flavor, really, so buy it quickly and run away, silly person, or we shall taunt you a second time. The BEER Thread ... Now available in your grocer's freezer. You mean this isn't it??? Thanks for the praise. "Why not?" Basically it's because I'm cheap, lazy and shy. "400 Beers" is free. "BEER" is free. See, if I had an ACTUAL website like you describe, I wouldn't know who would be reading it. I'd always be scheming ways to boost readership to pay for what I'd be doing. Besides, how would I be able to maintain a sticky enough site to compete with realbeer.com, ratebeer.com, jambands.com, glidemagazine.com, etc., all on my own??? Even with help from you as web-designer guru and LT as publishing goddess??? I like having a small intimate audience of friends. I'm pretty sure just LT and I are reading "400 Beers." "BEER" is for the two of us, plus you, TRM and RunMonkey when she drops by. I invite people from other threads to come in, and they might. So far, only RunMonkey has shown any interest in becoming our only new regular in a couple of years. That being said, there are some free and easy to use "forum generators" out there, with nicer interfaces, that offer much more flexibilty and usability than this one does (ex: you don't have code your own "b" and "/b" tags). See slowtwitch.com for example. ------------------ Life is Short ... Make Fun of It. 400 Beers

Be brave, no eye contact, no sudden movement. If they ask any questions, just act bored and uninterested, as if a reply would be beneath you. Whatever you do, DO NOT mention that you're an artist. This will only encite them to push their sketchbooks your way.
