Hello beer thread people. Entering this particular thread always has the feeling of entering a room. Like I just opened a door and walked in. HI THERE.. Anyway. Can I get some more beer suggestions? I really liked HiPA from Magic Hat I really liked Harpoon UFO I don't believe in Dogfish. Their four bottles to a pack thing makes me mad. Plus I'm mad at them for trying to get me to drink a golden shower. Mostly I'm cheap I'm looking for something light, complicated, fruity (even literarly), and crisp. Re. chili, I make vegetarian chili. I usually make it with with some small grain to mimic ground beef and then a variety of beans and canned tomatoes. I sometimes throw in chiplotes in adobo sauce and beer, and I used to throw in cocoa but somehow stopped remembering to do that. It's pretty good.

I haven't had Red Stripe in years. Is it cheap? I am very poor. Notice that I'm not so poor that I'm not buying Harpoon. I was thinking it would be smart to spend less money on beer, but I love food and drink and I don't want to get anything that isn't worth drinking. So I'd appreciate also mainstream/cheap-o beer recommendations.
While I'm here (I'm sure this has been fully covered before but until the beer thread gets its own FAQ: can someone explain the difference between Nascar beer and lawnmower beer?)

Actuallly, it's a bar ... a virtual bar. quote: Originally posted by RunMonkey:

They believe in you Their four bottles to a pack thing makes me mad. That's only for seasonals like ApriHop, and Punkin Ale. DFH :60, Shelter Island Pale Ale and Indian Brown Ale, come in sixes. Plus I'm mad at them for trying to get me to drink a golden shower. Oh, come on. Mostly I'm cheap. We all are, other than Mike.I'm looking for something light, complicated, fruity (even literarly), and crisp. Unfortunately, that's bring us back to ApriHop, but you could give MH #9 a shot. Re. chili, I make vegetarian chili. I usually make it with with some small grain to mimic ground beef and then a variety of beans and canned tomatoes. I sometimes throw in chiplotes in adobo sauce and beer, and I used to throw in cocoa but somehow stopped remembering to do that. It's pretty good. When I get to that last fraction of a teaspoon, in the cocoa box, I dump it into my New Mexico Chili Powder jar. That way it's aleways in there and it gives the powder a little EXTRA smokiness.

Maybe that was his subtle way of telling you that he thinks you should consider a horse farm in PA, instead???

Blue moon belgian white, with a twist of orange very much matches your spec, Run Monkey. I'm kind of hooked on it for the time being.

I'm back form my vacay in the Old Dominion ... Unfortunately, I didn't HAVE any Old Dominion. Word to the wise; when travelling south of the Masie-Dixie, don't expect anything other than NASCAR beer or green bottles in the convenience store fridge. Also, in Williamsburg (VA), Bud is considered a "local" beer.

St. George India Pale Ale quote: from the website: St. George India Pale Ale is a traditional English style ale with a distinct hop spiciness from imported 100% UK Fuggles hops. Deep copper in color, our IPA has a full malt base and a pronounced hop aroma. It was awarded the GOLD medal in the international category as the best India Pale Ale at the 2000 Beauty of Hops English Ale Awards.
Brewed in Hampton, VA, this was the only "local" craft brewed beer I had on the trip. It was nice and hoppy, dark copper color, with bit of an orange blossom fruitiness to it. I think the bottles I had may have been sitting for a while, since they were much stronger and cloudier than what I had expected, almost Belgian in appearance. St. George is the patron saint of England, so those were for you Mike.

Pizzeria Uno 32 Inning AleOkay, now don't kill me for this one. When you're at a "theme" restaurant with the D'Wife and D'Kid, "the Company" wants to keep everything pretty homogenized. What they have at Uno (or Chili's, or Friday's, or Applebee's) in VA, is the same as what they have in PA, MA, IA, or CA. I had a choice between NASCAR beer, green bottles, Sam's, or this. I took a chance. quote: Brewed with a proprietary fermentation process to duplicate a classic Bohemian Pils.
Okay, that was confusing ... I was served a nice big 20 oz. glass of either a lagerish ale, or an aleish lager. Whatever it was, it was tasty. Nice amber color, a little hoppy, a touch of grapefruity sourness. Two glasses hardly messed up my mini-golf game at all. [This message has been edited by randymar (edited Apr-24-2006).]

There were a couple of things going on at Busch Gardens - Williamsburg, that I wanted to look into during our day there:Grogan's Pub Raise a pint of the finest Anheuser-Busch products at Grogan's Pub - a gathering place of authentic proportions. Put your order in at the beautiful hand-carved bar and take in the music and merriment "finest Anheuser-Busch products???" Ooops, no thanks. Beer School Become an official Anheuser-Busch Brew Master at our 30-minute Beer School. Get your bachelor's in brewing with this higher education in hops. Yeah, except you had to sign up beforehand, seating was limited, and by the time I got there at 1:00, all the slots were filled up through 6:00. I figured anything more I need to learn about beer, I can get here from MM, TRM and LT.

Um, sorry, but that's Coors my friend. Not acceptable.I think she would be better served by a real Belgian White like Hoegaarden. Domestically, Ommgenang Witte has to be a winner, as is Victory Whirlwind. Why not give Magic Hat Circus Boy a try, if you're looking for something citrusy??? Southampton is now bottling their Belgian White Ale as well, which is very good. I've heard good things about Allagash. [This message has been edited by randymar (edited Apr-24-2006).]

Hello - I am here in some remote location in California - using dial-up and have no cell phone reception. Not to worry though as the beer is decent and the deer taste good.My brother drinks Moosehead - not a great start - any of you ever have that before? I did find some brews from a place called Lagunita. This is particularly amusing to me as it is the name of a lake here in CA near where I grew up. At that time, there was a serious 12 year drought going on and the lake was home to lizards and cactus, but no water. However, that is no longer the case - it rains here now - constantly. Lagunita brews an IPA and a Pale Ale. At first I reached for the IPA, but the Pale Ale had a drawing of a cute dog on the label, so I got both. The Pale Ale is good and I have not yet tried the IPA - I'll let you all know about that one later. Happy trails -

It seems that you had better luck in the convenience store than I did. Believe it or not I've had this. If you like the Pale Ale, you'll love the IPA. Lagunitas ("Little Lagoons") is from Petaluma, CA, home of the Wrist Wrestling World Championships every October.

Yeahhhh......I like this thread. Belgian Brewing Company. Any takers? The summerwheat ale is excellent. Fat Tire Ale is solid, sometimes a bit sweet for me. This past winter they brewed a seasonal 2 Below Zero Wnter Ale that's excellent. Only problem is they don't distribute east of the Mississippi. I'm hearing rumors that they will soon.
