And I found this out from a European - go figure.

Was this a French person??? Because they can't be trusted.

I mean, give them the concept of Democracy, let them play with that for a while, save them from annillation a couple of times, and they just turn Socialist anyway.

I do like Dutch cocoa however. At least I think I do.

And the whole concept of Amsterdam:

"Here you go folks, all the things you're not supposed to enjoy, but we know you do anyway *wink-wink*, right out in the open. Get it all out of your system. Just buy some shoes and windmills on your way out. Thank's for coming."

Not as bad as DeadHeads, however, trust me.

You are never going to find a BO-potsmoke-stalebeer-patchouli-"WTF is in your hair" fragrance at Yankee Candle anytime soon.

That's the good one, on the second shelf, over to the left, ¿correcto? Not the one for hot chocolate, but the one for cookies, ¿si? Or is that backwards???

I really should pay closer attention, but I just love watching you try to reach that high.

By the way, have you ever smelt a Phan? A little lighter on the potsmoke and patchouli overall, I find, with just a slight hint of cedary musk and a finishing whiff of CK1.

Define "clean." I prefer the term "tidy."

*editted to remove recollections of a whole zoo-ful of sights, smells and activity from the Parking Lot, that would be too intense before lunch*

Oh yeah, we got Austin Phans. Did you ever see Phish doing Austin City Limits? It's on PBS at least once a year down here. You can practically see the fumes...

First Tube, My Soul, Limb by Limb, Horn, Heavy Things, Back on the Train, Beauty of My Dreams, Gotta Jibboo, Piper, Down with Disease, The Inlaw Josey Wales, Driver, When the Circus Comes, Twist, Sleep, Chalk Dust Torture, Wading in the Velvet Sea, Possum, Character Zero, First Tube

Show Notes: This was a taping for the television show "Austin City Limits." Beauty of My Dreams was botched and restarted. Due to technical difficulties, First Tube was played a second time. After Piper, Trey responded to some fan requests and noted that the band saw Bela Fleck tape a performance for "Austin City Limits" in 1993. When the Circus Comes was dedicated to Los Lobos. The episode was set to debut on October 14, 2000, to kick of the show's 26th season.

from PBS.org - Austin City Limits
Talented New England Quartet Phish, known for legions of rabid fans worldwide and marathon live concerts, borrows and blends from multiple genres to create their own distinctive sound. Rolling Stone said of the band, "Their music spans the spectrum of styles: obvious influences come from rock, jazz, blues, and bluegrass. But somehow, the band manages to transcend each of these genres to create their own ahem Phishy verve."

While Phish has sold plenty of records -- they've tallied six gold albums and had a double-live set go platinum -- it is their appeal in concert that has made them a global touring phenomenon. Phish shows are noteworthy for their spontaneity, a quality that has helped further endure them to devotees around the world. For their Austin City Limits debut Phish performed some of their long-time concert favorites such as "Possum" and "Limb by Limb." Phish also performed some surprising covers-East L.A. band Los Lobos' wistful "When the Circus Comes To Town" and the Del McCoury Band's "Beauty of My Dreams" get the Phish treatment on this occasion.

Don't have that one, sorry.

I've gone beyond the Dead - Madeski, Martin and Wood. Then I put bed head in my hair so that I appear more unkempt than I really am - it's my nod to my work environment - I am not sure that they are ready for the full on "BO-potsmoke-stalebeer-patchouli" at this time.

I still haven't fully embraced MMW. I haven't heard enough to say yay or nay. I download, with full intent to listen, but never get around to it and delete.

My bad.

Garcia's name lent to new line of teas

LOS ANGELES -- As leader of the band that helped give birth to psychedelic music, Jerry Garcia's name was often associated with fans of leafy herbal substances.

Now, the Grateful Dead guitarist has five such herbal blends named after him, and, even better, they are legal.

The first batch of J. Garcia Artisan Teas is expected to make its debut at premium tea shops and gourmet food stores this week, said Marideth Post, spokeswoman for The Republic of Tea. The blends, licensed by the estate of Garcia, who died in 1995, are already available through the company's Web site.

Post said a portion of the profits are being given to DrawBridge, a charity that provides art supplies for children in homeless shelters.Garcia also was a well-respected abstract artist who created hundreds of works in watercolor, pencil, ink and other forms. One of his illustrations adorns each tin of tea.

The teas are named with a bit of whimsy. Morning Brew, for example, takes its name from "Morning Dew," a song the Grateful Dead often performed. Shady Grown, a blend of Brazilian and South African teas, is derived from "Shady Grove," a bluegrass album that Garcia recorded.

Then there is Magic Herb, a tea that pays tribute to a band that during its early years was known to perform while under the influence of magic herbs.

"We had a little bit of fun with Magic Herb Tea," Post said with a laugh.

Is anyone giving up beer for Lent???

D'Wife asked me on Monday if I might.

"Ummm, honey, how long have you known me???"

"Too long."

"Agreed. How many times have you know me to give up beer for Lent???"

"Um, never."

"Correcto. What makes you think that this year I might???"

"I dunno. We could save ..."

"Stop. That's an economic argument. It has nothing to do with sinning, lack of sinning or me being a better person. In fact, I feel I am a much better person, when I have a pint of Dogfish waiting for me at the end of the day."

This year I'm giving up pizza at lunch. Why is that a big deal??? Every day I bring PB&J, yogurt, fruit of some sort, ginger ale or water, for lunch, usually in a Home Depot bag. I supplement this with a slice of pizza from the cafeteria, which, as far as food service goes, is not bad. I usually get a pepperoni or sausage, then "hot rod" it up with onions, peppers and black olives from the salad bar.

Wish me luck.
