LT - I'm going to start reading A Void next, promise. In the meantime, do you have, offhand, a quote from the book that is particularly dark or ominous or kind of climactic, that I can use for a t-shirt idea?

Oh, and I had Pyramid Thunderhead IPA last night. Don't suppose you east-coast cats get Pyramid beer out there, do you? They're like the Sam Adams of the west: commercial, but lively and moderately experimental, with a great list of styles.

I am rather partial to "a curving concavity of nothing" He has just gone into this rant about Moby Dick "Call him Ishmail, and him Ahab, and it Moby Dick." The above quote is descriptive of the plave in the sea left behind when Moby Dick dives under - in otherwords...A Void.

Man, I can't wait to get my hands on that book this weekend. I have a great visual idea going: a bird that bends into a lower-case "e", but I want to put some of his writing in the shape that the bird makes. A good line or two - not too long, not too short, and obscure enough to make as much sense or as little sense as you want it to when read on top of a bird...

Many an Englishman has felt the desire to strike up a conversation with an attractive woman in a public place, only to find that as he flails desperately within his soul for the right words to sweep her off her feet, he is overcome instead with an overwhelming urge to back-pedal while apologizing profusely.
It's the apologizing that you need to drop - women really love a British accent. Especially skinny little Brits that appear intellectual and resemble rock stars. Hugh Grant - it's all a publicity stunt - he's really not all that...attractive (said with heavy emphasis).

Sounds like he's actually describing the letter "e" there. What's the rest of the line that quote comes from?

Yes!!! Chapter 10 he has rewritten “The Raven” as done by Arthur Gordon Pym (a character or pseudonym of Poe?) without using “E”s. I need to reread the original and see exactly what he has done. This is just some crazy stuff – Twas upon a nightful trustful I sat poring, wan and wistful What is Ozymandias – anyone know?

It's all a facade. I don't even know if I'm really a Brit any more. Plus, I get Trey Anastasio more than Mike Mills these days. Personally, these days, I think of myself as Super Furry Animal.

Just trying to maintain the facade of intellectuality.

I once picked up a girl by using a Monty Python accent and pretending to be a Harrier pilot. Being an airplane geek, I knew all the proper terms, and could use them convincingly"Give me full flaps." "Wheels up and rotating." "We're at maximum thrust!" You get the idea. [This message has been edited by randymar (edited Feb-02-2006).]

Yep. Busting Vegas is the second book. This first one is all about card counting. This one is about more "advanced techniques". quote: Originally posted by La Tortuga: Graphic novels!!! Hey there may be kids reading this. Oh never mind - did you see Sin City?
Of course, I saw Sin City. I am a big Robert Rodriquez fan and was poking around the library catalog to see what else of his they had when I saw they had the Frank Miller stuff so i thought I'd give it a look. Pretty much like the movie. It's like reading the story boards. quote: Originally posted by La Tortuga: Cherries cost more at this time of year. But think of the results. I haven't been able to brew my Butch Pils yet. First I did have the yeast then I got sick.
