Topic: Shoe Tracker in the training log |

One of the features that I use Cool Running's training log for is to keep track of mileage on my shoes. I logged into Active Trainer and tried out that functionality - I'm sad to see that although there is a Shoe Tracker tool, it is completely separate from the training log, and if you want to have it integrated you need to upgrade to Active's plus version for $9.95 a month - which is a lot if you ask me. That's the only feature I actually want out of the plus version.Any plans to reconcile this? Also, what will happen to the shoe mileage information that I've got logged in Cool Running - where will it be migrated to in Active Trainer? Thx [This message has been edited by jpwang (edited Oct-14-2007).]

At this time, we’re planning to keep the ability to track mileage to a shoe as an Active Trainer Plus feature. If you decide not to upgrade your account to Active Trainer PLUS, you can still use the Shoe Tracker tool and manually add your shoe mileage each time you work out. You’ll also have the ability to run reports on the shoe mileage you’ve logged manually. The information you’ve logged in the Cool Running logs will be migrated over to Active Trainer. You’ll have the option to import the data into Active Trainer or start fresh.

I also find the shoe mile tracker very useful. Why can this simple feature not be integrated into the free active.com log? It is very simple...

Everyone has a right to make money. This is the reason I transferred my training log to a different site last month. Didn't want to lose any data, and the site I chose has an integrated shoe tracker. I just didn't like the idea of the whole thing. I like CR, but Active was a little too much for me. I'm more the laid-back, nearly 40, "got my competition done years ago" type. I guess I'm going to have to get an Excel worksheet ready for my workouts (anyone have one?). I see baaad things happening when this switches over. I use the shoe tracker feature a lot and I think I can come up with something that's not going to cost me $9.95 a month or $119.40 a year. That would buy me shoes.

Thanks to everyone on this thread who has provided feedback on the Shoe Tracker feature. Your comments are definitely being heard. Our team is currently investigating options for Shoe Tracker integration into the Basic (i.e. Free) Active Trainer version. We can't make any promises, but your combined feedback has definitely highlighted the importance of this feature to the Cool Running community. It is our goal to provide the best tools and technology to help your training. In fact, we hope that you will find Active Trainer combines all the existing features from the Cool Running Logs with new and useful features like Route Mapping, Fitness Calculators and Strength Training Logs. Our team is constantly working to improve the product. Please keep the feedback coming... it is invaluable for us in tailoring the product to meet your needs!

I want my voice to be heard on this as well. When I previously asked about shoe tracking you told me that it was possible. Re-reading the previous thread (http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/Forum39/HTML/000004.shtml) I see the carefully worded response you provided. Manually keeping track of my shoes is not the reason I chose CoolRunning to keep my running log. I have tried many on-line logging sites. CoolRunning provided me with the information I wanted. In fact, there are lots of features in the CR long that I don't use, but the automatic shoe tracking is what keeps me from moving over to Buckeye Outdoors. http://www.buckeyeoutdoors.com/ quote: It is our goal to provide the best tools and technology to help your training. But, it doesn't provide all the features of the current CR log if I don't get automatic shoe tracking for free. I could not care less about what fancy new features are there if I don't get to keep my current features. As was stated above, I don't mind the fact that you need to make money. But it seems like we should be able to at least keep the features we had. Otherwise, I start looking very seriously at those spreadsheet templates. I am both disappointed and scared about what is going to happen to my training log. Currently I am making a backup every time I enter info into my log. When the final transition happens I want to have the option to use Active or take my data elsewhere.

The excel spreadsheet posted here looks great. I might just switch to that and forget about coolrunning and active.com altogether.

Some more feedback on the shoe tracking feature. Just want to let you know that I am another user that has not moved to Buckeye Outdoors primarily because of the easy to use shoe tracker. If this is not available in the basic/free version, I will likely just move on...I can understand the corporate motivation for wanting to monetize an asset, but as a user it just seems greedy to me if you force me to migrate, and I have to pay to keep the same basic functionality. Keeping track of shoe mileage manually is not the same functionality...

I'm going spreadsheet. I'll never have to worry again about a website going down or merging with another.

I used the Cool Running log for the first time last week and liked it. I will be disappointed if I am have to pay $9.95 per month to keep it. Actually, there are other sites out there that offer it free of charge. For the past 3 years, I've been using a FREE excel spreadsheet http://thinnmann.com/runlog.htm. This spreadsheet provides the ability to track shoes. I really wanted to switch over to Cool Running with the features that it offers and now am not sure what to do if those features aren't going to be free.

Hey everyone,I just wanted to announce that we are making the shoe tracker 100% free. Based on your feedback, we've decided to pull this feature out of the paid membership and make it available for all users at no charge. The functionality should be the same as the CoolRunning logs. When you log a workout, you will be able to select your shoes from a drop down. When you click log, that mileage will automatically be added to your shoes. You'll also be able to run a report for each pair of shoes, showing you all the workouts and mileage for each. Thanks again for all your feedback on this issue. Please continue to let us know what's important to you! Cheers, Chris

This is the first bit of good news to come out of this. Thanks for listening. With responses like this, people might be interested in checking it out. (Now I am off to back up my log once again before the transition because I am still not too hopeful.) David

Another thanks for listening to your user base. If Active / Cool Running keep really listening it can only help in user retention, new user recruitment and loyalty - which of course makes your internet properties more valuable. Keep it up! Great news! I was all set to leave...no way would anyone pay $9.95 a month to track shoe mileage (a basic, essential feature we already had). Too much competition for other great logs for that. Offer a robust, good log as a way to get us to your site everyday - make money off of ads, training plans, race fee processing, etc. The log is a great way to get traffic and if you screw it up you will shoot yourself in the foot. ------------------ ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Joshua "Flash" Gordon The Running Adventures Of... Will we be able to download our running log into an Excel document with Active.com like we can with CoolRunning? I really like this feature because it allows me to have a record of my running log, should anything happen, and because its useful to print it out and take it to their doctor in discussing injuries.I've looked at the links to Excel documents that others have listed, but I run to enjoy the great outdoors and I like a little room to write about the flora and fauna blogging also helps in this regard. Hey Susan, Currently, Active Trainer does not provide a way for users to export stored data however, Active Trainer does provide the ability to run reports based on the training log and training stats, which can easily be printed by using the web browser print button. ~Toby
