This forum is due a follow-up post to the initial report from Runkg on August 5 regarding the collapse of a runner during the North Face Endurance Challenge in Great Falls Park, VA this past August 4. Find Runkg's report here: http://www.coolrunning.com/forums/Forum30/HTML/002534.shtml

I'm very pleased to announce that the runner is healing very nicely. The circumstances were extremely serious and could well have turned deadly if not for the intervention and courage shown by Runkg and other trailrunners - they literally saved his life with their decisions and actions. The runner was an experienced and very fit track runner and soccer player on high school and college teams and had successfully converted to a marathoner. The horrendous heat conditions were more than he was prepared for: heat index well into the red/danger zone in all respects. He spent several weeks in the hospital with very aggressive treatment from many specialists, several more weeks in recovery at home and recently returned to work. He shows all signs of full recovery given enough time but recovery time, particularly for muscle tissue, is measured in months not weeks. Heat stroke seeks to destroy the body on many fronts. Treatment centers on simply keeping the victim alive which is not a given considering the massive damage inflicted to nearly every organ system as a result of the hyperthermia. Thanks for your concern and keeping this guy in your thoughts and prayers, he means a lot to us. Post here if you have questions, I'll try to answer them.
