Rob - thanks for the update. Wonder if Ron will try to make it more challenging since it looks like we will be using the new trail. He hates to make things easier.Didn't get a chance to run this past weekend. Son's graduation party was this weekend and I was very busy. Probably for the best, since I am rested for this weekend. I ran roads this week. Thurs. were are leaving for Atlantic City and I will run the boards on Friday/Sat. I will try not to party too hard and be ready for the race Sunday. I am starting to get excited. Meri - hope you end up going!! Yes it's the Perkiomen trails. Since I am away I probably won't post until after the race. Look forward to great event. Doesn't look too hot!!

Don't worry. Ron change the course so you can best bet you'll be running through bogs, jumping over logs, and climbing the steepest part of the hills. Wish I could do this one.

Double Trouble Trail Report:Things are looking UP! Literally… Up! The first reality check of the race was longer this morning than I thought. That’s ok; adrenalin will take you through it. Watch out near the road, a section within the first 2 miles the trail touches Park Road and sneaks back into an overgrown brier section. So don’t be leading at that point. Let someone else break the way. Oh yeah, before that, it looks like Ron deliberately threw trees and branches across the trail during the last rainstorm. The rest of the trail looks just as gnarly as usual. If the weather stays clear, it may turn out to be a glorious day! . . . For this and other French Creek reports . . . Tune into Hammitup Radio… 1060… Happy Running.

Do you know what trails the race will be held on and what part of the park?

I preregistered for this run, but just recovered from a case of bronchitis. Leave it to me to get bronchitis during June - one of the nicest months of the year to be outside!Still, I'm leaning toward participating in this race. I would only do the 15k and walk the majority of the course. My original plan was to run the 30k, as a 'stepping stone' toward training for my first 50k. I currently do my training trail runs in Marsh Creek, but would like to get familiar with the trails at French Creek and start to train there as well. Rob, thanks for all the information you've provided on the course. Take care, Jonathan ------------------ Every time I cross the finish line, I've beaten Crohn's Disease!

i'm a dork. the race just really did not fit in to my training schedule and i have a big race next week. I ran at French Creek, but on the Hopewell Furnace side for my long run. It was a gorgeous day. I was with all of you in spirit

I also did the 15k and had a blast! The weather was just incredilby beautiful! I took it easy though, because I recently got over a nasty case of bronchitis. There were times, when I wished I could just keep on running forever, but the 30k would have been too much. At about mile 2.5, I turned my right ankle and thought I might have to DNF, but there was hardly any discomfort and my ankle did fine. Near the very end, I managed to stub my toes, just as I exited the woods toward the finish line, but that seems okay too. Trail running shoes seem to really make a difference for me. I'm also thinking of running the Half-Wit 1/2M and definitely want to do the 30k next year. Hope everyone else took advantage of this beautiful day and had fun! Yes I must agree it was fun. I didn’t run the race I envisioned myself running but faired well. I did have some unexpected motivation when I spotted Loopy cruising up behind me on the turtle trail; great way to meet a fellow runner for the first time. By the way I was running the 15k and he was running the 30k, that’s where the motivation came in. He took out the next uphill and I finally caught back up with him before I finished and he started the second leg. Hey loopy how did you end up? Nice running out there. Merigayle, How was the Buzzard trail? I enjoy running on that side of the park. Did you stop at Millers Piont? Not much of a point. Another good climb is running the Six Penny trail. Maybe I see you there same day.

I did the Lenape trail, Racoon trail and Mill Creek Trail. I did not make it Buzzards. I forgot my map at home and just ran the "loop" i concocted last week.

Hi all, I ran the 30k and it was definitely a great time!Rob, it was great meeting you on the course! I ended up finishing in 2:35 for 11th place. So, definitely slowed down a bit in the 2nd loop, but I was still happy with my time. I posted my race report over in the run/race forum.

I finished two loops in 3:40. I would have felt great but I had a fall and a cut on my lip. I am sort of scared in retrospect

Results are up now and Photos too!262 finishers in the 15k and 119 finishers in the 30k. Jingchun, sorry about the fall -- hope you are OK and that you have not been turned off from trail racing. It is definitely risky, but the fun usually outweighs the risk! [This message has been edited by loopy (edited Jun-26-2007).]

someone in my running group who ran it said there was a runner who broke their ankle. any news on that? trail running gets easier the more you do it. Your ankles become stronger and you learn to run better and more agile on the trails. French Creek is some of the more technical trails i run on, especially the sections that are all rocks. you did well.

Jingchunyu, Sorry to hear of your fall. Glad to hear you finished. I saw an ambulance at the end of the race but did not hear anything of a broken ankle. French Creek can be treacherous in sections especially the downhill plunges. I will not be running the Half Wit, but will keep my sights on the Dirty Bird after thanksgiving. Also when it gets later in the year I’m toying around with putting together a Fat A$$ run at French Creek. I have never been to one yet and do not know the official/unofficial format. When the time gets closer keep a look out for it. Maybe a large loop or loop repeats for ease of aid station. This will be my only shameless race plug. I will not start a forum for it; the http://www.meelardshuffle.comm is a 5k XC race I put on once a year. If anyone can handle the short distance and open field running stop by. Rob- i'd help you do a fatass there. I organized a midnight run in February and about 8 people from this board showed up I was going to plan a summer midnight run at French Creek, but decided it was too technical and too easy to get lost in the dark. The trails are great in the day, but i did not want to have any liability or take any risks with people running them at night.

Oh you want to run at night? Worried about the trails are you? You came to the right place. We spent all winter there 5:45 am dark with headlamps having a grand old time. As far as the trails go it would be hard to get me lost, but someone who is not familiar with them it is surely understandable, heck I made a wrong turn in the winter when the snow covered the trail. If you have new batteries in your headlamp and don’t go to fast it is definitely doable. Do you mean start at midnight? I haven’t run more than 2.5 hours as of late. Are you talking about 4+ or 6+ hour run? Depending on the size of the group you may need to get permission from the park, it closes at dusk. You could however setup a base camp at the group tenting area. That would be a blast. EAT… RUN… EAT… SLEEP… RUN… EAT… JUMP IN THE LAKE… ------------------ Rob Profile

well, the last one was 12-sunrise, we wanted to do 8-sunrise this time. French creek would be good since there is tenting, but i did not want to put anyone at risk for an injury. or getting lost. But a fatass, i would be up for that Does not have to be at midnight.

I have never run for more than 2 hours but I am an aspiring ultra runner with a curiosity for adventure racing. If someone organized a night time trail fat ass at french creek I would def. be there...it would be awesome! We could make a t shirt
